Sitting on a salvaged sofa in the centre of her small tin shack, Nomfusi Panyaza looks increasingly worried, as heavy clouds gather in the sky outside. “When it rains, the public toilets overflow into my living room,” she says. “Water comes in through the ceiling and the electricity stops working.”
Outside her makeshift home in the sprawling township of Khayelitsha, on the eastern edge of Cape Town, barefoot children play on the banks of an open sewer, while cows roam next to an overflowing rubbish heap. Panyaza shares this tiny cabin with her two daughters and four grandchildren, a family of seven with two beds between them. “We can't sleep at night because of the smell,” she says, speaking in Xhosa, a language peppered with clicks that echo the droplets beginning to drum on the corrugated metal roof. “I'm worried that the children are always getting sick.”

Reading the comments the usual commies show up to demand “wealth redistribution” and the end of capitalism. Capitalist whites created all the wealth and cities that make up S.A. When they’re gone, S.A. will descend into another Zimbabwe. Leftists are congenitally unable to face reality.

Wading through the usual ideological muck of the Guardian commentators, one marvels at the level of desperate clutching at the straw of socialism in this tidal wave of poverty. Capitalism needn't be ended. What would benefit these people the most would be the ending of progressive fascism. And that's not likely.
I have never been in SA, never plan to go there, though I did know some folks who went there regularly on business and loved it. I always assumed that there were two SA's and my friends got to visit the good one.
Back in the early 1990's I worked for a firm that did underwriting of loans on ocean going vessels (registered hulls that were securing loans of at least $750,000, circa 1991.) At that time we received industry newsletters which were monitoring the situation in SA, and which warned that due to the then applicable currency limits for South Africans traveling out of the county, that there was a conspicuous pattern of over-investment in ocean going craft in SA. Since those with money could not take suitcases of currency out of SA, they invested in boats that could be sailed to the US when the stuff hit the fan. Lenders were advised to stay away from 85%+ LTV on certain types of craft, because the collateral value could have been diminished if all these boats hit the market in the US. Never actually came to pass, but it was an interesting thing to consider.

I cannot be overstated how important that was. You cannot design a city that works for everyone, but you can design a city that handles a few variables. That’s what modernists did and our cities have died as a result. The urban black poor are part of a system that was designed by Communists like Corbu go keep them poor.

Mandela understood the potential damage that could be caused by “white flight” from South Africa (one need only look at neighboring Zimbabwe), and sought to assure whites they would be protected in the new South Africa (which for the most part was true). Many whites left anyway, and when they leave the population is left without doctors, teachers, etc.. The “mentoring” system, by which whites were to train blacks to move up in the economy, seems to have degenerated into a spoils system for the politically connected.

And that mindset is the excuse that muslims use to defend modern slavery and polygamy.
Science says that the human species originated in Africa. You would think that civilization began there, too. It didn’t.
After thousands of years of progress by the human race, Africa is still a backward, uncivilized, ignorant crap hole.
Is it any wonder that the ancestors of Western civilization got out of Africa ASAP.
