Today, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall issued the above statement regarding his support of the House-passed government funding legislation.

I understand the vitriol FReepers, me included, want to hurtle at him. Doesn't help, so keep it on other threads devoted thereto. There's his rationale; kindly analyze it for/with me. Sometimes you earnestly go with the best bad option you have, sometimes you rationalize stupidity - tell me which it is, and why.

I voted for this guy. I want to properly understand why he did this before calling and letting loose.

The Ryan bill was a freaking joke, citing that as a comparison is a laugher.

This bill does not hold Obama accountable for anything.

So i’s just another $1,100,000,000,000. What difference, at this point, does it make?

I do believe he was conned by Boehner’s leadership team. This is not a reduction in spending -— there are a goodly number of spending INCREASES and a number of accounting gimmicks masking those increases.

Read the damn bills you vote on. Don’t accept your lying leadership’s explanations of what is contained therein. They are lying “MOFOs”.

“... A government shutdown can’t stop him. His actions are funded with money that he raises through fees, so regrettably he can and will continue his unilateral efforts whether the government is funded or not. We must find another way.” ...

Yes, and this other “way” has a name - IMPEACHMENT! Stop with the BS about “president Biden” - because you can impeach his retarded ass too! In fact, put the entire bunch of these Marxist bastards on trial for treason - and then hang them from every lamp post down Pennsylvania Ave!

Big effing deal - Unless you can breach the two thirds threshold to over ride the O-HOLE’S veto , then you are not gonna do squat, sparky!

These cheapskate illegals aren’t going to be paying fees.

These “family values” illegals want us to pay to babysit their children. If there is no funding from taxpayers, 99% of them arent paying.

I’m sure that all who voted had at least some idea of what was in this homogeneous bill but actually doubt it - ha! Just another example of our Representatives passing bills under darkness (hey let’s just pass it and see what is in it), sounds of Obamacare...geez! It seems that the staff supporting these folks actually write the bills and of course nobody expends the time and effort to actually read them. I say we just quit electing politicians and let their staff do the work.

We elected Republicans to put down this nonsense and to our dismay (again) they disappoint us! Please give us another party to vote for!

Sorry, but all seems to be such a farce today - Democrats and Republicans...no matter. Until we the citizens revolt, nothing will change! I doubt that term limits will even change things. Those that want power will run and those that actually care will not! As I see it, most of us are too complacent to actually join in a revolt so we are doomed..

Count me too old and too pessimistic to see any future changes in any positive light. Damn both of our parties!

Why are they funding Homelamd Security (and therefore Obama’s amnesty) until Feb 27? Why are they giving Obama two full months to begin the process of minting millions of new Democrat voters? Why not take it up first thing when the new Congress is seated?

It sounds to me like Boehner wants the amnesty program to be well under way before he ‘fights’ it. It sounds like he, and Woodall and all other Republicans who voted for the bill aren’t serious about stopping the amnesty.

..... the bill .... could not turn off the funding stream that the President intends to use for his executive actions on immigration......

And...what then? It’s still saying it’s a done deal for Amnesty adnd they aren’t stopping aything at all.

...”we will be able to narrow the entire funding conversation ‘for the new Congress’ to this one department.... The House, with a willing partner in the Senate having been sworn in, can then begin to move legislation to stop this President’s actions. With smart, targeted bills we will partner with the American people to restore Constitutional order.”

But he did not mention how going this route would affect Amnesty once the NEW Congress has it in it’s hands....or is that also if anything, to be peicemealed as well? Meanwhile Amnesty rolls right along.

Much of the funding for amnesty implementation comes from DOJ/HHS pots. The Obama-Boehner-Woodall amnesty plan now fully funds those departments for the entire FY. This isn’t an accident. The GOP planned it this way because they want amnesty. End of story.

Had this sell-out voted NO on the Rule, this never would have gone any farther!

Earlier in the day, the vote was 218 and needed 219 to pass. Someone, a Republican, sold out then enough to pass the $1.1 Trillion, Amnesty funding bill passed against the will of the people!

What the? “While the bill implements restraints on executive overreach in many areas, it could not turn off the funding stream that the President intends to use for his executive actions on immigration. As conservatives, we have all been very frustrated by recent attempts at unilateral lawmaking by the Obama Administration. There is a misconception, however, that if we shut down the government that we can prevent him from acting. A government shutdown can’t stop him. His actions are funded with money that he raises through fees, so regrettably he can and will continue his unilateral efforts whether the government is funded or not. We must find another way.”

Can someone explain this to me?

How could this bill be said to hold the line on spending, when it puts taxpayers on the hook for hundreds of trillions (with a T) of dollars worth of derivatives?

Here’s a decent summary of what’s in the bill... for those of you who want to continue fighting this in the Senate... or want to know more than just the sound bites of the talking heads.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2014/12/09/whats-in-the-spending-bill-we-skim-it-so-you-dont-have-to/

There’s some decent stuff, but also some stuff that will make freepers hair stand on end.

Check out the sections on:

- Dodd-Frank (which a lot of democrats are fuming over and I agree with them)

- Immigration - Not only are we paying to take care of the kids that came over, but we’re giving $260 Mils to the governments that sent them over.

- Obamacare (ACA) - I’m not sure of the impact of what’s there, if any.

- Federal workers - get to continue partying

- Marijuana - blocks the legalization in DC, but also blocks the Justice dept from interfering with states that passed medical pot laws and industrial production. A bit schizoid if you ask me.

- Campaign Finance - Vastly increases allowable donations - Can’t say I favor giving the ultra wealthy even more political clout.

They passed this late at night. That's all you really need to know about it. No good bill is ever passed outside the news cycle.
