Former Vice President Dick Cheney upgraded his assessment of the Senate Intelligence Committee Democrats report on the use of enhanced interrogation techniques from hooey to crap.
The reports full of crap excuse. I said hooey yesterday and let me use the real word, Cheney said on Fox last night. Its OK, you can bleep it.
The veep said the report was deeply flawed.
They didnt bother to interview key people involved in the program. And I think that its sort of a classic example which you see too often in Washington where a group of politicians get together and sort of throw the professionals under the bus. We have seen it happen before, I can remember, in Iran Contra, he said.
What happened here was that we asked the agency to go take steps and put in place programs that are designed to catch the bastards that killed 3,000 of us on 9/11 and to make sure it didnt happen again. And thats exactly what they did and they deserve a lot of credit, not the kind of condemnation that theyre receiving from the Senate Democrats.
Cheney rejected the reports conclusion that President George W. Bush was deliberately kept in the dark about the program by the CIA.
Not true didnt happen, Cheney said. Read his book, he talks about it extensively in his memoirs. He was in fact an integral part of the program. He had to approve it before we went forward with it.
He had a much broader portfolio than I did and I spent a lot of my time just on national security. But I think he knew everything he needed to know and wanted to know about the program.
Cheney said there was no effort to keep the techniques used on detainees from Bush.
He was just as with the terrorist surveillance program. On the terrorist surveillance program, he had to personally sign off on that every 30 to 45 days. So the notion that the committees trying to peddle it, somehow the agency was operating on a rogue basis, and we werent being told or the president wasnt being told is just a flat-out lie, he said.
I guess partly what really bugs me as I watch all this process unfold is the men and women of the CIA did exactly what we wanted to have them do in terms of taking on this program. We said we have got to go use enhanced techniques if were going to find out. Weve got Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who was the mastermind of 9/11, who has killed 3,000 Americans, taken down the World Trade Center, hit the Pentagon, would have taken out the White House or the Capitol Building if in fact it hadnt been on for the passengers on United 93, Cheney continued.
He is in our possession. We know hes the architect. What are we supposed to do kiss him on both cheeks and please, please tell us what you know? Of course not. We did exactly what needed to be done in order to catch those who were guilty on 9/11 and to prevent a further attack and we were successful on both parts.
He’s exactly right.
Can't be!Di Fi et al would not sacrifice security for political payback, would they?
In a sane world, there would have been a President Cheney. In this one, he is widely scorned.
Mmmm. The democrats are protecting the Bushes. That speaks volumes. And not about the democrats.
Maybe this is payback for not yelling to the world “WE FOUND THE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!” Plus, Bill Clinton and W are brothers and Hillary is W’s sister in law.
The dem sponsored report is about as valid as Scooter Libby’s conviction.
Dianne Feinstein is going to end up under the Obama Bus.
Washington (CNN) -- The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee accused the CIA of secretly removing classified documents from her staff's computers in the middle of an oversight investigation, while another lawmaker said Congress should "declare war" on the spy agency if it's true.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein said CIA Director John Brennan told her in January that agency personnel searched the computers last year because they believed the panel's investigators might have gained access to materials on an internal review they were not authorized to see.
"The CIA did not ask the committee or its staff if the committee had access to the internal review or how we obtained it," Feinstein said in blistering remarks on the Senate floor. "Instead, the CIA just went and searched the committee's computer."
what in this report is new? seems to me to be a rehash of old grievances. i have heard nothing new in any of the reports.
Obama has said zip about Feinstein and he is just as anti American as she is. These clowns in the Dem party do not know what torture is. It is not sleep deprivation. It is not water boarding. It is not scaring the crap literally out of someone. Frankly, our POW’s in the Korean war and those who were in South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos experienced far worse then waterboarding. I would kill a pig in front of these Muslims and threaten to put pig parts on them and blood on them.
Hell, 0bama stands on the high horse of no "torture" while at the same time ordering a drone to kill. And ISIS doesn't worry itself about the definition of "torture" as they behead at will.
There is no question that the CIA did not keep the Bush Administration in the dark on the procedures, and I completely believe that the Bush Administration also required the CIA to fully brief the Intelligence Committees of Congress, which they did. This Dem Senate report contains obvious transparent lies in a lame attempt to revise history in order to 1) be a distraction to 0bama's current lawlessness and 2) to cause problems for the foreign policy plans of the future Senate.
Did you just wake up. Have you ever heard that "It's Bush's fault" When have the Democrats ever protected Bush. They are trying to protect Obama from a similar report on drones when the new congress comes in. "We didn't go after Bush so don't go after Obama."
Same old left BS throw something out there you can’t prove they have been masters of for years the thicker the better they say.
pretty obvious all the congressfools on those committees knew about the torture. Bush did as well. They all knew. Question is, is America willing to use torture as a valid method of war? In the past it has been what seperated us from the evil of the world (japanese beheading of US soldiers, the holocast, Soviet mass murders, etc). I think we as a nation fully accepted it after witnessing the death on 9/11 on tv. And at the same time gave up our soul as a nation.
That is why we have plunged head long into the cultural death we have in the past decade. A majority released themselves from morality, in their minds, to allow revenge on the enemy. In doing so, they released all of themselves in every other way. There is no going back from that. it is like Rick killing the police officer on the last episode of walking dead. No going back from that. America cannot be saved when even good men are so released from moral grounding.
Bull, it was about getting information to save lives, not torture (and waterboarding is NOT torture BTW) for torture’s sake.
I love this man.
So Feinstein and her ilk NEVER lied to the American people?
Say it LOUD my brother!
(japanese beheading of US soldiers, the holocast, Soviet mass murders, etc) ... That is why we have plunged head long into the cultural death we have in the past decade.
Beheading=WaterBoarding?! Holy about-face Batman! You sound as braindead as a character from the walking dead.
We water boarded for God's sake. Not beheaded; not murdered. And it was with one specific aim in mind ... obtaining immediate information to save lives. No different than using force to stop an attacker or the threat of an attack. No different than the theological concept of a "just war". There may be responsibilities so important, atrocities which can be prevented or outcomes so undesirable they justify war [or even mere waterboarding].
If you really want to talk about a reason the we have plunged headlong into the moral abyss and cultural death ... look no further than abortion and Planned Parenthood. Since you don't, I smell troll.
