Call it the mysterious case of the Incredible Shrinking GOP.
Barely one month ago, the party sailed to victory in one of the biggest rout election waves of the past century. They ran the board and took control of the U.S. Senate. They grew to historic levels in the U.S. House. The Democratic Party was left in tatters in state, local, and governor races across the country.
But today, just a few weeks later, before GOPers even take hold of their new reins of power, the party is crying poverty. They are stricken with paralysis. House Speaker John A. Boehner, known for his weeping, begs powerlessness.
"Frankly, we have limited options and limited abilities to deal with it directly," Mr. Boehner said last week when asked about President Obama's unconstitutional executive action to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens presently living illegally in the U.S.
"Limited options?" "Limited abilities?" We have an unbridled madman in the White House right now taking a machete to the U.S. Constitution and the leader of the opposition party that was just thrust to power in a historic rejection of the president and his cleptocratic policies is now talking about "limited" options and abilities?
Funny, I don't recall a single Republican running in a single race this year on a campaign that Republicans in Congress have only "limited" options and abilities to stop Mr. Obama. No, in fact, every single one of them ran their entire campaigns on the singular promise that we have to vote for Republicans so they could stop Mr. Obama. And Americans voted.
Now the chads have not even settled yet and already we are being told the whole meaning of the election is something different now. Now that they have won.
Either Republicans did not really believe their campaign...

Didn't this country used to hang traitors by their necks?
Yes, exactly.
He, John Roberts, and Turtle-man - all effectively bought and/or blackmailed, IMO.
O, he has balls, unfortunately he is showing them at those who love the idea of the founding principles of this country. Namely people like us, the common folk, plebs, etc.
It’s time for conservatives to abandon the Republican party, a party controlled by big government proponents dedicated to self enrichment through cronyism.
Conservatives in the House should tell Boehner that if he wont fight amnesty & Obamacare, then they will change party affiliation to Independent & caucus with neither party. If enough of them do this Boehner will lose his Speaker’s seat to Pelosi or an Independent. If the House is gonna kowtow to Obama, let it be led by a Democrat.
That should get his attention.
Trey Gowdy for Speaker of the House now, today, & the conservative candidate for President in 2016.

No, it’s time to attack. Make it personal. Pound and grind GOP leadership and their top lieutenants in their districts until the primaries. Then Cantor a bunch of them. And a serious term limits movement needs to start. Until they fear us nothing will change.
Thank you, Matt.
Reading this enforces that what I know in my heart is happening is really happening. You laid it all out very clearly. It’s scary as hell to contemplate, but obama’s web of deceit goes further than, due to normalcy bias, many can imagine.
Patriots will be called upon one day to right our ship of state and steer us from the rocks of ruin we are on course towards.
God help us.
Is Progressive just another term for Republican?
The Republican Party became the ‘Get Along To Get Re-Elected’ Party back during old FDR’s era where he shoved a perfectly good nation into the jowls of Socialism and Satan.
I recall, not too fondly, Bob Michel who epitomized the bi-partisanship that accommodated Democrats. Republicrats were the house servants who lifted the rug so that Democrats could sweep the filthy scandals they created so they wouldn’t be seen.
Now, having control of both houses, come January, the Republicans will show us their true mettle....and we’ll puke!
I'm with you, Mister!
I think it is a combination of carrot and stick...
Go along and the dems will let them run virtually unopposed, and collude on ‘signature’ legislation.
Look at how Allen West was treated to see how the rebels are treated, even without blackmail.
If West had wanted (and acted accordingly) to be ‘in the club’, he would have run unopposed.
“Conservatives in the House should tell Boehner that if he wont fight amnesty & Obamacare, then they will change party affiliation to Independent & caucus with neither party.”
That’s the REAL Nuclear Option and they should use it immediately. I won’t vote for another GOP candidate in State, local, or federal elections. All I get is liberalism when I do. The GOP will not defend my liberties as an American. They support foreign interests first.
You got to wonder what part of the last election did they not understand?
Yer kiddin', right?
What you are suggesting is we wait 2 more years in hopes of changing the Pub leadership. We just did that & you can plainly see it did not work. McConnell was not primaried. Lott stole the election in MS. For all the seats gained in both houses, McConnell & Boehner are still in charge. The “waiting 2 more years” strategy has repeatedly failed.
The historic majority the Pubs hold in the House wont last long; this opportunity may not come around again for decades. If the Pubs kowtow to Obama & the Rats for the next 2 years there will be little reason for the disgusted conservative Pub base to get out the vote in 2016, yielding Clinton or Warren as President & probably Rat majorities in Congress.
What I suggested would have an immediate & sure impact in the House - Boehner out as Speaker, & give McConnell in the Senate something to think about. Seeing a revolt in the House could embolden conservatives in the Senate.
Sixty Pub defectors to Independent status in the House would END Boehner’s Speakership, now, not 2 years from now, with the Rats becoming the Majority party. Boehner & Co. could never let that happen. The resulting chaos would yield a massive change in GOP leadership, something desperately needed. Surely there are 60 conservative patriots in the House.
I think you might be on to something there!!!
Establishment Republicans don’t fight and never will...
And pure power politics. Both Boehner and McConnel have rigged the rules for the GOP congress critters so that NOBODY will dare utter a disloyal word about them.
Even mention a leadership vote, and you are DONE. You will be reassigned to a broom closet without a phone under the metro line.
So there are damn few brave enough to speak of changing the leadership. Not enough to force a vote. What we need is a secret “confidence vote” by the GOP in congress every few months. That will never happen.
Disgusting. Speak up or lose your nation.
” And pure power politics. Both Boehner and McConnel have rigged the rules for the GOP congress critters so that NOBODY will dare utter a disloyal word about them.”
Like you said, THE FIX IS IN, and this is just a small part of it.
Oh I agree. Factually that’s the reality. However, all the people that screamed bloody murder for us to ‘unite’ behind that GOP sure think it was ours. So they can’t just pretend the past several years didn’t happen. Thus, ‘our’.
Now I’m sure a lot of people that have been scarce recently (imagine my surprise) ABSOLUTELY consider it theirs. Which is why they went scorched earth in attacking conservatives prior to last month are mysteriously scarce lately. This latest GOP affront to God and all his angels can’t be spun, ducked, sidestepped or given a reality rewrite.
We tried.
