Glad to see them standing up to this!
There is a lot of turnover among teachers. The union is just trying to get some mileage out of it.
Common core is rotten to the core.
Take a bow, Jeb Bush. Another of your lousy ideas that will keep you from the GOP nomination in 2016 raises its ugly head.
They are not standing up to Common Core. They’re standing up to standardized testing and (more likely) the use of standardized testing in teacher evaluations.
I bet everyone of them that resigned Already had put in the time in the system to receive their retirements.
I’m prone to bash public schools along with the unionized teaching staffs that normally infect them.
However, these teachers appear to have potential.
Hopefully, they’ll be rehired by the rapidly surging private schools.
And the country had better be pretty well cleared of public schools soon if we have any hope of keeping up with the rest of the world.
I'm a huge Home school advocate...we home schooled our six children...
That being said we need to have a public school system...very few people have the ability to home school their children correctly...
Dump the public school system and we lose an entire generation...not just the under achievers...
The public school system worked very well when there was local control...no unions, no federal government and only an over-cite form the state...
Get back to that state and the schools will again put out quality students at a much higher rate
Note....some public school teachers have class, courage and ethics......
I know four outstanding teachers that were “thinking” about retirement in the next 5+ years or so. All of them retired when they found out what CC was all about and how it would affect their teaching, grading etc..
Common core may take a hike but it is the data trove (womb to the tomb) that will remain. Common core was just the vehicle to get the data thing in place. Parents don’t have a clue.
PS. We have a school in our area with a program teaching common core via the computer. The kids look at it all day (who knows what they are learning) and have to communicate with the teacher via the computer. They are turning into a bunch of zombies. They can’t write, spell or do basic math facts. . . .and lets not go to the version of American history they may be introduced to.
I thought Jebbie had turned Florida’s education system into a model for all to follow. At least according to him.
Apparently not.
Get your children out of the public schools (government indoctrination centers) - NOW!

Common core is rotten to the core.<<<<<<<<<<<
Tell me about it. Had my grandsons, ages 5 and 9 this weekend, they both had CC homework. The instructions were indecipherable, the younger one had math (kindergarten) and the older one was asked to find rhyming words for long words for which I couldn’t even think of a word that worked. Unless they wanted words that kinda/sorta sounded like part of the longer word. Hard to guide them through their weird homework. I could teach them the old way, which worked for me and everyone I went to school with, admittedly in the Stone Age.
Thanks for the heads up.
I see teachers reacting to this in other states, but I don’t expect any resignations here in NJ; our teachers make enormous sums of money, have great benefits (including retirement), and are held to no standard at all.
Paterson NJ was just in the news because they had 19 seniors ready to enter college. NINETEEN - and it is a big urban district with a huge price tag and teachers drawing combat pay. An acquaintance that works in Jersey City commutes about fifty miles each way from western NJ; you don’t do that unless you are making a LOT of money at an easy job.
Good for them!
