NEW YORK (AP) The mother and widow of an unarmed black man whose police chokehold death sparked protests across the country said Saturday they've been moved by the thousands of peaceful demonstrators who have taken to the streets after a grand jury declined to indict the white officer involved.
"It is just so awesome to see how the crowds are out there," said Eric Garner's mother, Gwen Carr, who added that she ended up stuck in her car after protests shut down traffic.
"I was just so proud of that crowd," Carr said. "It just warmed my heart."(continued)

This wasn’t choke hold or a choke hold death... probably suffered a heart attack due to having the wind knocked out of his very fragile carcass by falling over on the sidewalk... yet the phrase seems to have achieved immortality.
“probably suffered a heart attack due to having the wind knocked out of his very fragile carcass by falling over on the sidewalk”
Okay, that was OUCH!
submitting to arrest is so 90’s.
Drink!
I think the biggest part of the story which people really miss....is that Garner sustained himself and his family by selling non-taxed cigarettes. He paid the rent, the grocery money, gas money, kid’s clothing, cable bill, etc....by selling pack by pack....smokes.
His undoing was that he hung around store fronts...near the door, and letting people know that they could buy cheaper smokes from him. You’d have to figure on a daily basis....he was taking just from one store...at least $300 in sales. As for tax revenue that he stole from the city and state? I’d take a guess that they lost $100k a year in tax revenue from this guy.
Didn’t the family tell Al Short-toe to stay away? Or did he just show up and they could not stop the photo-op after it had already occurred?
a booze of shot
That was another family:

An old rule from Civil War times says that I could set up shop on most any NYC sidewalk and sell whatever I wish. But then I’d have to live there.

I wonder if anyone got the trademark on that.
When he was repeating “I can’t The coroner’s report lists heart attack as the cause of death. The official story is that “died of a heart attack in the back of the ambulance”. breathe” 11 times, there was no “choke hold” in place. the cops stood around and stared at him for 9 minutes as he lay on the sidewalk dieing of a heart attack waiting on the ambulance.
You know - I don’t blame him for trying to feed his family doing something that was illegal but not particularly nasty of injurious to others. That being said his real undoing was not submitting to arrest when he knew what he was doing was wrong.
He probably would have been out of jail on bail that afternoon if he had just put his arms behind his back and copped it sweet. The judge would have probably given him a fine and he could have gone on with his little business in another location.
I worked in Security for 25 years - when you caught someone 25 years ago they would hang their heads and go reasonably quietly. Now they threaten you, promise to come back and get you (sometimes these are not empty threats), swear at you and, if they are able they will take you on. Somehow they blame you for their arrest - this is our world and it sucks!
I would think the guy would start shooting before you got close to him.
Which was taking food away from those who were selling the goods legally.
The guy was not a killer or pushing hard drugs, he was not robbing banks or mugging people - yes sure it was wrong - I say that in the rest of the post but I if I had to do something similar, if it meant the difference between my family eating and not, then don’t expect me to lie and say I wouldn’t.
Just wish more families would tell him to get stuffed.
But that is not murder if I get in a tussle with the cop have a heart attack and die.
This guy didn't deserve to die...he wasn't even a bad man in any way..but the cop was not trying to kill him either.. the cop was doing his job.. people get arrested everyday for little stupid things ...and the guy didn't want to go..
the cop was arresting him....putting him under control.. and he was fighting, resisting arrest.. it cause him to have a heart attack and die..
Even most dumb lib protesters know that if you going to resist arrest you just passively go limp and be a dead weight... you don't fight or wrestle with the cop.
Now if you want to talk about medical action or lack of it after.. fine.. but then you need put that on the the officers in charge of the scene not the cop that took him down...
That brings in the black women sergeant..
If this women was in charge the whole time supervising the whole thing....Why is she not also being charged if this arrest was wrong or mishandled or there was neglect involved?
Did Rand Paul accompany Sharpton in the wreath laying ceremony?
