MILWAUKEE (AP/WITI) An afternoon protest takes a criminal turn as it veers onto the interstate that lead to more than a dozen arrests.
The Sheriffs Office says the group was stopping traffic and wouldnt leave the freeway. 14 people were arrested and booked into the Milwaukee County Jail. 3 of those people are from Ferguson, Missouri.
A statement from Sheriff David Clarke says:
I have made it very clear that arrests will be made when violations of the law occur, regardless of the protesters motivations. Law and order will be maintained.
The group Occupy Milwaukee was behind Saturdays protest. They have another event planned for Sunday, December 7th.

“Officer, may I suggest that you use your nightstick?”
Protesting on a freeway can get get you killed....I wouldn’t have been able to stop on time.....say day after tomorrow?
The anarchist idiots had another bunch in Miami last night blocking Interstate 195 by downtown. One of them said something like “well so...who’s working at 9:30 PM?” I can think of many who work NIGHT shifts, for starters!!! Nothing like that solidarity with the working class, eh? /s;)
AGREED!
Milwaukee has the right idea here, even if it leans lefty.
When I was in my twenties I worked a second job at night doing retail work after putting in a full day at an office, to pay for various loans.
Most malls near me closed at 9. You would be driving home between 9:30-10:00.
I guess these folks don’t work.
I love an officer with a truncheon.
Isn’t that perverted, to love him with a truncheon?
Oh yes. I’m sorry. That has one.
I hope that clears things up. I should go to sleep.
Just being silly here.
> I love an officer with a truncheon.
Wink-wink, nudge-nudge. ;^)
:)
I understand. With the state of the world at the moment, if you didn’t laugh I’d weep.
And lately all I do is cry.
The world has always been weepworthy.
Yes, we need some levity, and in that vein, I had a good laugh Friday night. Here’s my FB post about it (it was late so all bets are off for construction/style/grammar, etc.):
I’m not going to comment on the current protests either for or against, but I’d like to point out that a successful protest probably takes planning and knowing the venue. For example-
if you hold one on a Friday night on Fremont St. in Las Vegas on the first day of a huge festival for locals, you’ve just become as invisible as a homeless person. Yelling, being disruptive and laying down in the middle of the street...well we figure you’re just another drunk tourist, so that’s the answer to the Livestream.com question, “why isn’t anybody paying attention?”
Also, choosing your subsequent march route to “close down The Strip” it might be wise to choose the route that isn’t the one we use about once a month for a parade or 5k run. Our police have got crowd control for that route down pat. And all the locals know not to cross the strip- that traffic never moves anyway. I won’t even cross it to shop. So that’s why we all seemed so “peaceful” and no one cared. The tourists assume, as do the locals that live here, that it’s just crazy, drunken, holidaying people. I’ve watched a lot of Livestreams of protests and our police looked just plain bored. They seemed to have quite the “whatever...,” attitude.
After laughing at the protesters a while I finally just became embarrassed for them. At least it was an entertaining evening for me. “Everyone here seems so peaceful. I don’t think we can get them stirred up...they don’t seem to care.” Pretty sure most of us just thought it was another Friday night festival.
I’ve lived in Las Vegas for 10 years and I think I’ve been to Freemont Street once because it’s a drunken zoo. It is a closed street area because it had become that and they finally gave up trying to keep partying people out of the street. That alone might give you a clue. SSDD, people.
Remember those words- planning and venue because otherwise you’re just embarrassing yourselves. Don’t let the government get hands on that live stream or they’ll use it as a propaganda piece to discourage people, the protests having no success. Just...lame and moronic.
I must add- I can understand that none of the protesters may have read the book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but I would expect at least a few to have seen the movie The Hangover.
For sure - they should remember that Michael Brown was gunned down, in cold blood, for refusing to move out of the road.......
Interference with interstate commerce is a federal felony offense.
Sheriff Clarke is my kind of sheriff!!
I had a close encounter with this incident; I was heading downtown from West Allis when 4 county sheriff’s SUVs went hurtling past me, lights and sirens on full. About 90 seconds later, another 4 or 5 passed by... and again after another minute and a half... When I got to the area of the disturbance, there were at least 30 sheriff’s vehicles completely blocking the freeway. I didn’t see any of the malcontents, though; the LEOs probably had them all face down on the ground by that time. - Sheriff Clarke is a brick, he reminds me of our late lamented Police Chief Harold Breier.
The Milwaukee DA is a left-wing wuss.
