I think the term 'wetnurse' is still out there today. In the past, multiple women nursing a child was not a thing of note.

Only the queers could make it 'leading edge'

In the South, many ‘wet nurses’ were black.......to wealthy white children...........

When my brother was about 12 weeks old, my mother ended up in the hospital for several days. Fortunately, my Aunt was able to and did indeed breastfeed him while mom was in the hospital. I’ve given him grief about it ever since. He’s in his 30’s now, and it drives him nuts. Lol.
