Squeezing out conservatives on committee assignments is a tried and true strategy of the establishment. Boehner has threatened and successfully kicked conservative troublemakers off of committees for standing up for their principles. In the Senate McConnell even had to recruit Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) for the Senate Finance Committee to jam then Senator DeMint. Even recently, conservative Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) was pushed out of the chair at House Oversight because he wanted to aggressively go after the Obama administration.
"Given the fact that Senator Sessions has done a superb job serving as the Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, why bench your all-star for a walk on?"
It is happening again. Conservative Review was the first conservative media outlet to detail how Senator Enzi was challenging Senator Sessions for the Budget gavel and then laid out how McConnell has the ability to stop or sway the contest.
Seniority plays a large role in Senators committee assignments and is traditionally used by the establishment as the reason for withholding key positions from conservatives. However, in the case with Senator Sessions (R-AL) he is the more senior (and more conservative) member.
Senators Enzi and Sessions were both elected in 1997, but because Alabama is a bigger state than Wyoming, Sessions is a notch above Enzi on the seniority ladder. However, for committee assignment purposes tiebreakers on seniority are done by lottery, literally luck of the draw.
Given the fact that Senator Sessions has done a superb job serving as the Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, why bench your all-star for a walk on?
"What was Senator Enzi doing on the infamous night of executive amnesty? He was on the Senate floor calling on Congress to pass one of the latest Big Government schemes: an Internet sales tax.

...so your solution is to lower quantity?
Your logic is off kilter today - unusual for you.
It makes no sense to advocate for, nor worry about, the quantity .... when that quantity hates us.
It is insanity to support those who hate us. I do not care if they call themselves Democrats or Republicans.
In plain words, ignore the fact that we got nothing from 2000-2006, when the R's held all 3 houses, but somehow this time, with a radical leftist D as President, we'll get somewhere? Sorry, that logic don't work. We've seen enough of the "New" Congress, and it looks pretty much the same as the old. McConnell and Boehner? Coming out and saying that impeachment and gov't shutdown are not options? Pfffft. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results, well...
Exactly. The sooner we (Conservatives) learn that, the better off we'll be.
Then we agree. Supporting establishment Republicans, who hate us, is insanity.
Who is surprised. There are those on this forum who warned that things such as this would happen. However, the Republican Party has an effective cadre of judas goats. Thus, nothing significantly will happen until the elections of 2016 when once again the Republicans will be the minority party.
Yep! I personally believe we need to forget the Democrats at this point, and focus on fighting against the GOP. If we want a truly Conservative GOP, we need to get forceful with the current leadership. I don’t mean calling them and emailing them and faxing them...I mean walking away and letting them know we’re done with them until they find some balls.
The RINO’s and GOPE have and will take the wrong lessons from the 2014 election. They will incorrectly believe the people wanted them because of their mushy moderate/liberal presentation. When in reality the people either wanted obama stopped or voted for them because they were not the democrats or voted for them because what was their alternative, vote for the democrats again?
The GOPE will trot out another establishment puke in 2016, lose again and blame the conservative base for getting their butts kicked again. The Republicans in Washington don’t give a damn about the country anymore than the democrats do, they just want to control the $$$.
You could maybe have saved a bunch of Conservative and chose not to. I get it I guess.
Your last sentence is dead on accurate. And so is the rest of your comment for that matter. ;) You see the charade for what it is.
The GOP is already setting the stage for its defeat in 2016. That’s what they do. Its who they are. Its how they roll.
More reason for conservatives in Congress to bolt immediately. The RINO’s will have to negotiate terms in order to form a coalition. We’ve reached the point where conservatives have more bargaining power outside the GOP than in.
“In plain words, ignore the fact that we got nothing from 2000-2006, when the R’s held all 3 houses, . . .”
We did go from a balanced budget to huge deficits and a doubling of the cumulative national debt. Remember the earmarks and the pork spending of Hastert and Frist. George W. during that time didn’t even know a veto pen came with the office. He never used it.
I have been saying tht since the DC first said Enzi claimed seniority. Could never understand why everyone seemed to take his word for it.
