Nine years ago Eaker & I were talking about what a wonderful person TexasCowboy was and what poopheads his children were. We both agreed that it would be a damn shame to let the memory of him lapse. Three or four times a year TexasCowboy would host shoots at various ranges across Texas. After everyone was finished shooting, he would then serve up a yummy lunch. It was while Eaker & I were talking that I came up with the (rare brilliant) idea of continuing what he started, but to do this in his memory. This is how the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot was born.
2015 will mark the 10th Annual Memorial Shoot! I could not be more proud of how this event has blossomed throughout the years. The following phrase has been spoken at every shoot, except the first one, This is the best shoot weve had!.
Get ready to speak those words again . . .
The 10th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot will be held June 6th, 2015 at Schwenkes Rifle Range in Aransas Pass. This is a private range, but I was once again able to sweet talk Mr. Schwenke to let us use his range (OK maybe it wasnt so much the sweet talk as it was he saw how much extra money he could make for the day). The cost is $15.00/adult. We have the 25 yard range reserved for us, but will be allowed to use the other ranges ~ as long as we blend in and are respectful to the members. The shoot will start at 10:00 am. Ill have waivers for everyone to sign, and will collect your fee with the waivers to turn in all at one time. This year we will not meet as a group for breakfast before heading to the range.
If cpdiii is able to make it to the shoot he will provide lunch, otherwise we will have BBQ catered in (which will cost about $8.00/person ~ havent priced that yet).
I have reserved a block of 15 cottages at Pelican Bay Resorts ~ http://www.pelicanbayresort.com/ ~ for June 4th 6th. To reserve a cottage call (Toll Free) 866-729-7177 or 361-729-7177, let them know you are with the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot group. Our group will receive a discount on the price quoted on their website. The club house rents for $150.00 for four hours, I reserved Friday and Saturday nights ~ I cant remember the start times, but we have to be out of there by 10:00 pm both nights. The lady I spoke with said we could probably use the club house for free, depending on how many cottages we actually rent.
For those arriving Thursday night dinner will be at Captain Bennys ~ this is subject to change. The Friday night dinner is yet to be determined. Saturday night will be easy stuff ~ appetizers and chips & dip type stuff. There are a few months yet to figure all that out.
Everyone get your vacation requests in early. Really look forward to seeing everyone in June!
Guido killed Bambi?
I haven't been to Elgin since we were house hunting. Gonna hafta make a trip now.
What you said!
I finally booked mine yesterday. Woohoo!
Well the Mrs and I have made reservations for Thursday and Friday nites at the home of the pelicans.
Owing to my having to be at work Monday day shift, boo hiss boo, we will be having to leave Saturday afternoon after the festivities at the range.
Look forward to seeing everybody this year.

God Bless yer determination.
I am hashing out my plans as i type.
Excellent. Msdrby and kid won’t be joining us this time as they have some kind of comic book convention in Dallas.
Gina & no-to-illegals - Really sad that you guys won’t be able to make it ~ but you will be there in spirit.
Buckeye - I am so looking forward to seeing you!
alfa - I’m thrilled that you & the Mrs. will be able to make it, but am bummed that you have to leave so soon (Monday is not going to be fun for you!)
mylife - Dude! You’ve not missed one of these shoots ~ I would hate it if you miss the 10th one. (But understand if you can’t)
Three weeks. Holy moly.
Do want to be there next time ... Will not be happy with not being there but please ping me to pictures of gathering ... please ... Prayers for Everyone’s Safety!
I will not be able to attend the shoot.
As you know I am a pharmacist and still work part time. However, our night pharmacist at the VA has retired. Not many people are qualified to work the night shift as you are the only pharmacist in the Hospital from 10PM to 7AM. Thus you must know the system very well. You “ain't got” no one to call for help in a critical situation in a code. Thus I am now full time nights until we have a new pharmacists trained to take over. It take a few months to get a “new guy” up and running. My shift is 80 hours a week and then a week off. It falls on the week of the TC Shoot.
I apologize for not being able to come down and cook for the TC GANG. I enjoy the comradeship and good people that go to the TC Shoot.
The good news is I can now justify purchasing that SAIGA SHOOTGUN that I have been wanting and also pay for another trip to Spain without my wife jumping all over me.
I will see you next year at the shoot and again apologize for not being able to come down and cook.

dang ... you will be missed ... prayers to see you next year ... wife wants another hug and meal ...
SAIGA “SHOOTGUN” was not an error of spelling. A SAIGA “SHOOTGUN” keeps on SHOOTing after a normal Shotgun has run out of shells.
Well Damn. We certainly are going to miss you (and your cooking!).
You’re a good man for not letting down the Vets.
You gotta do what you gotta do. You’ll be sorely missed.
No design for T-shirts and such this year?
No, this is throw-back year..
Rock them designs from the past.
With less than two weeks to go until the shoot, I’m gonna need a head count for Friday night dinner & Saturday shooting.
