AKRON, Ohio An Akron police officer shot a man threatening to kill a woman while holding two knives to her throat.
Earion R. Feaster, 31, of Akron, faces charges of felonious assault, abduction and domestic violence in Akron Municipal Court. He is booked into the Summit County Jail.
The officer, a 7-year police veteran, is on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, which is the department's policy for an officer-involved shooting.
Akron police were called about 10 p.m. to the home in the 200 block of East North Street for a report of a domestic dispute.
Dispatchers relayed information to the officers responding to the call that a man was hitting a woman and threatening to kill her. The caller also told police the man said he would shoot the police officers.
Two small children and the woman's mother were inside the home at the time, according to police.
Officers were let into the home and found Feaster holding two knives to the woman's throat, police said. Feaster refused several police commands to drop his knives, police said.
The officer then fired multiple shots at Feaster, striking him once in the right leg. Feaster then dropped the knives and police gave first aid to the wound, police said.
Feaster was taken to Akron General Medical Center for treatment. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening, according to police.
The woman, her mother and the children were uninjured, police said.
Obvious need for range time. Good result.
Oh no, not another racist killing.
They never miss in the movies!
Riots set to begin in Akron at 7:00 pm...
If Obama had a son . . .
Also, we know this young black man had both hands up, since he wouldn't have been able to hold two knives to the woman's throat otherwise. It sounds like another case of excessive police violence against a young black man.
Waiting for ABCCBSNBCCNN to call for the burning and looting of Cleveland...
If the cop was black, no one will care.
I guess all families have their own little special way to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Yo when my people going to be able to rob stores, punch cops and knife women in peace? No justice no peace!
While range time can make you a better marksman, no amount of range time can simulate the amount of adrenaline and nervousness felt when placed within a real life and death scenario. Couple that with how the perp may have been positioned I’d say he did a fine job.
I’m guessing the leg was the only thing reasonably exposed and reasonably safe to aim at. At least he didn’t shoot the victim so I’m guessing he missed wide and adjusted back.
I remember a few years back where a Detroit cop shot a kid (teenager) in the hand at a fair distance. Kids were screwing around with a BB gun and one kid put it up to the head of another kid so the cop shot.
He was shot in the leg!?
I should have thought a CNS shot was in order. (Head shot for those in Rio Linda)
had both hands up, since he wouldn’t have been able to hold two knives to the woman’s throat otherwise
Hands up, then maybe holding knives with his tail???
“Obvious need for range time. Good result.”
That is obviously time at the range well spent. Shooting around a hostage is a tough skill.
I agree but after he shot him in the leg he should have considered one to the head. Yeah I know wishful thinking. Because he’ll be back.
“Knives up! don’t shoot!”
Damn shame we’re going to have to pay for Earion’s medical bills, court cost, and prison cost. Oh, and then appeals, release on society, another arrest, court cost, prison, repeat ... repeat ... etc.
:-)
