At least thats what the latest White House leaks seem to be saying. They also credit Susan Rice, an official who shouldnt even have a job, with engineering his firing.
In the view of White House officials, Mr. Hagel has helped to thwart Mr. Obamas pledge to close Guantánamo with his concerns about the security risks posed by the release of detainees. He recently pulled back from plans to repatriate four Afghans who had been approved for transfer, a decision that annoyed Ms. Rice, officials said.
White House officials also expressed annoyance over a sharply critical two-page memo that Mr. Hagel sent to Ms. Rice last month, in which he warned that the administrations Syria policy was in danger of unraveling because of its failure to clarify its intentions toward President Bashar al-Assad.
So the most anti-war Republican was still too hawkish for Obama. That really says something.
No one would have accused Hagel of being a hawk, but apparently he tried to do responsible things like oppose releasing terrorists who are bound to attack Americans again.
That annoyed Susan Rice and her protector in the Oval Office who is still bitter that he couldnt make Rice Secretary of State. So wait till Kerry finds himself standing next to Obama.
But as the president spoke of the blood and treasure and sacrifices of enlisted men and women like Mr. Hagel, turning several times to try to address his defense secretary directly, Mr. Hagel stared ahead fixedly, declining to make eye contact with Mr. Obama.
Still better than Stalins retirement plan. Meanwhile Ted Cruz trolled Obama.
Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, suggested the administration consider former Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, urging the president to give full and fair consideration for this critical position.
But Mr. Liebermans views on national security echo those of Senator John McCain, who is sharply critical of Mr. Obama, and he would probably be viewed as far too conservative by the White House.
You dont say. I doubt Lieberman wants the job or would be seriously considered for it, but Cruz has managed to remind everyone that a moderate Democrat and vice presidential candidate became too right-wing when Obama and Pelosi tilted the party far to the left.

Dennis Kucinich is probably available. Or Cindy Sheehan.
Susan Rice and Valerie Jarrett. Obama listens to Susan Rice and Valerie Jarrett. The therapist Obama is going to get after he’s done being President is going to be a very, very rich person.
I can imagine only one GOP candidate with the stones to do this: Ted Cruz.
One does not annoy Ms. Rice. Susan Rice has to rank up there with the most incompetent gang of White House sycophants to have ever graced the WH or the OEOB. She is such an amateur at everything except palace intrigue, where she clearly excels. How many brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines will die to bolster this woman's ego and blundering actions.
Just make sure and release all of the Sunnis to Shiite strongholds and all the Shiites to Sunni strongholds.
It would be a Win-Win situation.
Bob Kerrey, former Senator of Nebraska will get the nod IMO.
You are correct. Our country is going to hell because the POTUS is mentally ill and no one will do anything about it.
Sounds like a good start. As for the terrorists, they’ll probably end up in Qatar living as kings.
Hagel also called for upgrading our nukes, and I think that is the other reason. Even Rumsfeld did not want to upgrade them, because he had bought the lie of the anitnukes that it cost too much. It actually is a drop in the bucket, and even less than the cost of fraudulent abuse of Obamacare.
I believe inmates in Fed SuperMax have free access to psychiatric help.
Count me as being at least a little bit surprised, because I was pretty sure that Hagel would have been another Obama “yes man” right down the line - why else would Obama have chosen him in the first place? Obama is such a small man, after all.
Better than Stalin? LOL talk about damning with faint praise...
Throw Hussein into Gitmo with the other enemies.
He also listens to the melanin enriched Yeti
