This is NOT a case of some mentally ill person “deciding” they want to be a different sex.

Now I understand. I think she and her family were right to obtain surgery in order to define herself as early in life as was possible. That is a baffling, upsetting condition that has always occurred in some manner. How do you tell the grandparents? No one expects this. This is different than deciding to destroy or toss out well presented, well functioning systems that were present at birth.
Not so clear, no testicles and a uterus, there is a fuzzy distinction between a woman with very large clitoris with fused labia and a man with a small penis and no testicles.
