President Barack Obama announced on Wednesday that he will use a primetime address to the nation tomorrow night to announce his plan to protect up to five million undocumented immigrants from deportation using executive action. In response, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has published a defiant article in Politico calling on Republicans to block all nominees, executive and judicial, “so long as the illegal amnesty persists.”
Under the headline, “Obama Is Not a Monarch,” Cruz writes that the president’s plan is “lawless” and “unconstitutional” and accuses Obama of being “defiant and angry at the American people.”
Cruz then lays out his proposal to combat Obama’s action:
If the President announces executive amnesty, the new Senate Majority Leader who takes over in January should announce that the 114th Congress will not confirm a single nominee—executive or judicial—outside of vital national security positions, so long as the illegal amnesty persists.
This is a potent tool given to Congress by the Constitution explicitly to act as a check on executive power. It is a constitutional power of the Majority Leader alone, and it would serve as a significant deterrent to a lawless President.
Additionally, the new Congress should exercise the power of the purse by passing individual appropriations bills authorizing critical functions of government and attaching riders to strip the authority from the president to grant amnesty.
Note that he says “the new Senate Majority Leader” and not Sen. Mitch McConnell. Cruz goes on to predict that Obama “will no doubt threaten a shutdown,” the “the one card he repeatedly plays,” though it is not clear how or why the president would do so.

The Congressional Black Caucus will all blindly fall into line with amnesty even though Blacks will suffer the most with these “new” citizens given entry into America. Blacks are about to be displaced as the prominent constituency in the Democratic Party by Latinos. I wonder how many Blacks realize they are about to be thrown to the curb.
He’s drooling because he knows he becomes a major player in national politics. He’ll be the Latino version of the Al and Jesse show. He’ll be a kingmaker and every major Democratic politician or piece of legislation they propose will need his stamp of approval. He can taste the power. I doubt he cares that much about these illegals. He’s getting an early Christmas present.
Don’t just block them. Bring each of them up for an up or down vote and vote to reject each of them, one after the other until you have rejected each of his appointees.

I thought that recess appointments expire at the end of the particular session of Congress in which they were made...so if McConnell NEVER closes the Senate, there can’t be any recess appointments. This still let’s the Senate go home for vacations, campaigning, etc., since nothing gets to the floor without the Majority Leader’s specific approval.
The Pubbies HAVE to play real hardball...but still produce a budget and do other work to make it look like everything wrong with DC is at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue. This shouldn’t be hard, as that’s largely the truth.
I think that impeachment is off the table, though it shouldn’t be. It’s off because there simply aren’t the votes in the Senate. There should be - if the Dems were like they were 50 years ago (i.e. most of them actually loved and cared about their nation). Now, however, it is vastly different. Impeachment can’t work unless you have 2/3 of the Senate, so why bother. It is also something of a “Please don’t throw me in the br’er patch!” thing - Obama REALLY wants it, because it’ll make him the victim and the Pubbies the bad, old, racist party. The Pubbies need to be smarter than that...even though the statist bastard deserves to be impeached and then imprisoned, along with all of his enablers in DC and the press/media.
All taxpayers should not file a return next year.

Since more than 80% of them get refunds, that actually gives the govt more money to spend.

After destroying the best health care system in the world, Obama is determined to grant wide amnesty to foreigners living illegally in U.S. If Obama wants to make the U.S. into another banana republic, it seems he is well underway to reaching his goal.
The Republicans must make it perfectly clear that Obama has declared a merciless war against the American workers and the middle class of America. There are 92 million of able Americans out of the work force because they cannot find employment and Obama wants to legalize and give work permits to over 11 million illegal aliens allowing them to bring here the rest of their families. In other words, another 25 or 30 million that either will compete with Americans and legal immigrants searching for scarce jobs or are going to be added to welfare, bankrupting Medicaid and the food stamp system as well as ruining even more the quality of the public schools with the massive infuse of hundreds of thousands of children without speaking English to already overburdened schools systems.
