STUTTGART, Germany — U.S. European Command has ordered all troops serving on the continent to refrain from wearing uniforms off base except when they are commuting to work in their personal cars or on base buses.
The directive, which was sent to respective service components on Nov. 10, was expected to be in full effect at bases across Europe by Tuesday as part of an effort to ensure the safety of personnel, EUCOM said.
In addition, EUCOM recommended that all personnel review their individual social media accounts make sure they don’t reveal too much personal information on their geolocation functions and profiles.
The command gave no reason for the change. However, the military has previously warned servicemembers overseas to be alert to the threat from Islamic radicals who have used the Internet to encourage attacks on Americans. The Army’s Threat Integration Center issued a “special assessment” last month that warned against potential threats from the Islamic State and others influenced by radical Islam.

Frankly, when I was stationed in Germany I never wore my uniform off base.
Of course the haircut was pretty much a dead giveaway.
My work mate’s son was prohibited from wearing his USAF uniform when flying home from Japan last month. He’s allowed to wear on domestic flights but not on international flights.
The Whermacht, Luftwaffe, and Kreigsmarine were unable to drive uniformed Americans from Europe.
The Army, Navy, and Airforces of Imperial Japan were unable to drive uniformed Americans from the Pacific.
Now Americans are ordered to HIDE the very uniforms that freed the world.
How far we have fallen!!!!
But by all means keep Muslims in the country. sarc

Sounds like Panama back in the day. I got arrested riding my motorcycle in uniform (even though the treaty allowed it) after we arrested Noriega’s son-in-law and daughter for driving 60mph in a 20mph zone on Albrook. Quite an adventure, made more fun by the fact the PDF assumed I, a blue-eyed, blond-haired gringo, didn’t speak fluent Spanish.
They should wear wigs and false facial hair as well. A military haircut is easy to spot.
1980s redux. Back then, DC-area military couldn’t wear uniforms to, from, or at work except for ceremonial occasions. Back then it was Hippies and Liberals. Now it fear of Islamofascists.
