That looks a lot like a C-5 cargo plane

I guess form after function comes into play?

One of the best aircraft Soviet and later Russian aviation produced.

Its a formidable and reliable workhorse airplane in both the military and civilian fields.

The new updated version of the IL-76 builds on a storied legacy.

If you buy one, everyone will call you when they need to move.

Personally, I think it looks more C-141ish.

Its designed to carry up to 40 tons of cargo and can land on unpaved airfields.

Which makes it truly versatile in its role as a bulk cargo transporter. There’s nothing else quite like it out there.

Looks like a pure jet version of our C-130.

It can be configured to carry hundreds of heavily armed troops, tanks, APC’s, jeeps and whatnot in its role as a military transport plane.

In its civilian role however it transports tons of goods to the remote reaches of Russia where roads are in short supply and frozen rivers during the winter make commerce over water between cities impossible.

The IL-76 could connect a vast country far more cheaply and efficiently than even the train. And it could get where needed a lot faster, too.

76 is a nice plane for Russia but the one that needs to be updated is the AN-124.

Antonov could sell all they can make of that airplane, its beyond useful.

I believe a prototype of that Il-76 with the PS-90A engines have been in testing for some time and is finally reaching Russian Air Force service.

The Antonov’s sometimes show up at Bush Intercontinental (Houston) in the air freight area. Typical load is specialized oilfield or refinery equipment.
