Back to basics. That’s how it used to be with newspapers way back when.
The Register is a right leaning paper.
At least they are trying to survive.
“The Register is a right leaning paper.”
It was libertarian for years under the old ownership. I’m not sure what it is now.
More power to them! Make it a team effort, get everyone involved.
Sounds like a great opportunity for someone living in that area. Find a need and fill it.
Don’t think they were all that libertarian, I don’t remember them advocating recreational drug use all the time at all.
“The Register is a right leaning paper.”
It is. Most OC rags lean right, like my fave the Costa Mesa Times. Even though I’m an L.A. guy, I prefer to pick up those papers over the ass-wipe worthy LAT.
Not anymore... not right leaning for at least six years...
As a kid and teenager in Newport Beach, CA, I read them religiously. They were the best paper on the West Coast, overseen by RC Ailes, I think.
That was 40 years ago, who knows now?!

Does the Daily Pilot still exist?
My grandmother was the society page editor during WWII, when it was called the Globe-Herald.
I have fond memories of that paper, and reading it, and comic books, in Pink’s Drug Store, waaaay back in the day!

The model is, you build a site that attracts lots of visitors. Then you charge advertisers to show ads to the visitors.
You won't be able to get away with a paywall unless you have specialized content that a select audience finds sufficiently valuable. E.g., deep investment analysis with $$$ at stake.
It's kind of interesting how Prince Rupert tries to cheat on the paywall concept. If you go directly to one of his properties (e.g., WSJ), you hit his paywall. But if you get there via a Google search, he lets you in. Idea being to hook you on content, then charge? Too simple. He needs to give it up!
Yeah, they still sell it. Sorry, i forgot to add that paper in my post. When I’m in Costa Mesa, they only have that paper at Coco’s, my fave breakfast resto.
In really small towns the reporter, editor, layout person and stuff could all be the same person.
It might have had a “right-leaning” editorial position but it ran the same leftist AP stories all the other papers did I bet.
Actually, I think most of them are probably much better suited to deliver papers versus writing them.
Why would anyone subscribe to a newspaper? Everything you can get from a newspaper, from news, sports, weather, want ads, jobs, comics, coupons, etc., you can find on the net for free.
I’ve been trying to tell the spouse that for ages. However a Sunday copy of the columbia, sc version of the daily worker called the state still comes here.
I grew up in Mt. Pleasant. Every day my father would read the “News and Courier” and the “Charleston Evening Post.” I grew up with newspapers and read a daily for years. News isn’t dead but newspapers almost are.
