Russia has announced plans to build a drone base for military reconnaissance in a town just 420 miles off mainland Alaska and just over 300 miles off the US state’s St Lawrence Island, Russia’s state news agency reported on Thursday.
"The command of the eastern military district in charge of the military development of the Arctic zone has moved forward with plans to form an unmanned aerial vehicle division,” Alexandr Gordeev, spokesperson for the district said.

I’m 6’1” but my older brother is 5’5” tall, I’m used to snarky and can pick up on it quickly.
Russia has been building a road and rail system to open up its East Coast since the mid-2000’s. The 1,200 mile road/rail project to connect this town with the rest of the Russian Road network started in 2012.
It’s a huge, ambitious project that, if completed, will run all the way from the Trans-Siberian, to the Bering Straight.
Looks like a swell place to deploy the new mega powered laser created by Boeing and ready for action. Videos of the thing in operation are awesome. They aim the laser at the drone, missile, aircraft when it’s many miles out, and within a few seconds of pushing the power button the target bursts into flames and flies to pieces. Last I heard, it was slated for deployment this year.

Our Defense should not take the bait and waste time and money on the Russian drone issue. Instead, build enormous swarms of the best combat drones as an offense for tomorrow against foreign enemies. Focus on that.

It’s happened before. We had a old guy taking shots at some Spanish Air Force jets out in the boonies.
The State Troopers talked with the guy. He’s like, “Those ain’t our jets. I know that!”
They left him with a warning.

Except I spend a lot of time in Alaska and it is laughable to me that the rooskies allegedly will spend millions flying drones over northern Alaska.
All that is up there are me and a couple other guys here and there fishing and some oil rigs! You can see it all on Google Earth for free!
In a real war their little drone base would get blown to hell the first hour of the first day!
