They may take our lives, but theyll never take . . . our cigarettes?
Westminster may become the first municipality in the country to ban all tobacco sales, but some businesses and town members are not ready to give up their Marlboros, Camels and Parliaments.
A public hearing on a potential tobacco ban in the western Massachusetts town of Westminster was shut down Wednesday night after boisterous audience members loudly voiced their opposition to the ban.

Ping.
No problem.
After the unruly extremist disrupt the politbureau, a closed door session later passed the measure unanimously.
Ha Ha commmies! please god don’t move south
It is a matter of making law abiding citizens criminals.
I saw video of one person who was very agitated and said the health chairwoman is “not my mother!” Strong words.
Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.

The protesters are giving the City Council more power over them and they actually have.
More power than they actually have. Correction
Oh no! Not a petition! That will solve the problem.
It is only a burning leaf, far less polluting than the tailpipes of the council member’s cars that are pushing for the cig ban.
Everyone in the room should have lit up a cig in protest.
Silly voters. Don’t they understand that liberty must give way to “progress’?
Where are all those pot legalizers when you need them?
Exactly... stronger and more definitive statement of their freedom if every one lit up a cig in that meeting. Then they could have put out their butts on the foreheads of the POS’s that think they rule.
“It is only a burning leaf, far less polluting than the tailpipes of the council members cars that are pushing for the cig ban.”
Don’t give them another idea...cars are next!
You want to see ugly? Try to take away smokers’ cigarettes. That’s enough to start a prison riot.
You might think “oh but those are criminals, ordinary smokers are different”. Think again. Cigarettes are as addictive as heroin, possibly even worse. The only reason smokers don’t act like junkies is because they can get their fix pretty easily, so they are rarely suffering heavy withdrawal.
The closest enclave would be in Keene, NH.
Ok, yes this is Massachusetts. Keep in mind that Westminster voters cast 2240 ballots for Mitt Romney and 1950 for Husein Obama in 1912. These is a small red area town in the sea of blue cities in Massachusetts. They do have pecker-heads in strategic parts of government.
