Hackers from China breached the federal weather network recently, forcing cybersecurity teams to seal off data vital to disaster planning, aviation, shipping and scores of other crucial uses, officials said.
The intrusion occurred in late September but officials gave no indication that they had a problem until Oct. 20, according to three people familiar with the hack and the subsequent reaction by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA, which includes the National Weather Service. Even then, NOAA did not say its systems were compromised.

It looks to me that the IQ on FR just dropped a few points. Talking about global warming? The weather? When clearly the whole point is that the hacked a satellite system. Only you and a couple other got the point of the story.
Obama is palling with them, while China hacks the Postal Service, flies a state of the art jet they “stole” from our computers and Russia is invading the Ukraine and possibly the Artic. This man, Barry? Hussein? Barack? Whomever! is quickly becoming not just our first Pracenik/hippy/pot smoking president (oh yea, almost forgot) and black, he is becoming a liability and a threat to our national security. This was all a cutesy liberal adventure...now it is getting dangerous.
I don’t know about the rest of the country but we had sub-zero weather in November two or three winters ago here in the CO Rockies. Atypical but not unnatural.
“The first polar vortex was described by weather scientists in the mid-1800s.”
It always used to called winter.
Just part of the hype people are bombarded with by our media.
Interesting thing is our news has all but become anything but reporting ‘facts’...it’s all a political driven entity now....or creating a story for the hype.... I could easily say it’s as full of political propaganda and nonsense reporting worse than countries who we know do so.
As for hacking....China and Russia have teamed up on pretty much everything now that Obama and the EU pushed them together. While our Government is making green house deals chasing the global warming scam.....they’re making huge deals that unite their country and those surrounding as well as resources, trade and business and industry, as well as banking.
Obama and EU are sitting on his hands while Asia and Russia are creating jobs and industry.....throughout the East...and they’re moving in this window Obama and the EU have handed them.....I suspect the next two years they will move at lightening speed....so too will their cyber spys.
Damn them.
Did they take any Damn pictures?
Just Damn...
Hey, that Lo Blo.
You learn to write from famous author of “The Yellow River” by I.P. Freely?
Here we had sub zero weather last year for a clip there. Pretty much froze things up in my area. Town water pipes burst etc.
I also remember three foot snow storms as the norm, as a kid, that were far more frequent then now.
"The U.S. Congress authorized spending 775 million dollars to replace two 1920's era Ohio River dams in 1988 with an estimated completion date of 1995; funding was appropriated and released in 1991.[2] The design was performed after July 1997.[2] The latest completion date for the project is 2024 at an estimated cost of 3.1 billion dollars."
I’m guessing you might have been a kid in the ‘60s. So was I. Recent year’s weather patterns resemble what I remember them to be back then also.
Further he just met with the Dali lama In Burma which China's response is that meeting was "a gross interference in China's internal affairs and a serious violation of the norms of international relation". Everything he touches goes bad!
Gangsta dawg walk at the Apec International Summit...
hmmm....guess why my local forecast on Sept. 23 called for snow with an overnight low of -10.
We use to get big refrigerator and mattress box's at the appliance store and slide down the neighborhood hill, though everyone had sleds and flying-saucers! Ha! We'd stay out til our gloves were full of snow-buttons and feet red once we got our boots off! My mom use to get so annoyed with us not knowing to come in when we got so cold! Ha! Just too much fun! Kids today don't know what fun is!
You tell me why things are more expensive than many years ago. We use to have do’ers in this country, not milkers. I saw some Kentucky boys resurface a 20 mile section of highway in two weeks that was as smooth as glass. In my own state I saw construction work on a 20 mile section of highway last twenty years. Government involvement is my first pick, Ohio has an abundance of bureaucrats.
The spring was different then too. In late May and early June we would have long drenching rains that would flood the streets. We would ride our bikes through the water crashing into the deep pools at intersections or ride inner tubes down a nearby ditch filled with runoff.
By the early '70s such hours long straight down rains ceased to happen and gave way to less frequent and more violent thunderstorms that usually didn't drop as much water in total. That ditch never filled enough to float down after some point in the late '60s.
Joe Bastardi has frequently referred to patterns in the '50s and '60s to describe what has been occurring recently.
The first time is a courtesy call.
The question is will we be able to prevent it from happening again?
Curious...
If the Chinese are hacking everything in sight, why are we playing kissy face with them this week ?
Oh I forgot about the inner tube rides! Ha!....we had a creek that would really get moving and down we’d go! With a nasty curve we all had to avoid or crash!
The sun has much to do with our weather...I don’t pretend to understand it all but we are currently in a time where the ‘pattern’ is at the point we should expect colder temps.
Meantime while they’re hacking us Obama does this!
China and the United States have reached a breakthrough in talks on eliminating duties on ‘information technology products’.
The breakthrough would allow the “swift conclusion” on talks to expand the Information Technology Agreement (ITA) at the WTO in Geneva later this year, United States Trade Representative Michael Froman told reporters on Tuesday. It would reduce global tariffs on such products as medical equipment, GPS devices, video game consoles, and next-generation semiconductors.
“It shows how the US and China work together to both advance our bilateral economic agenda but also to support the multilateral trading system.”
