WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) Americans will see their bank accounts shrink if they dont sign up for Obamacare in its second enrollment season.
Uninsured Americans who decide not to enroll will face a penalty of $325 per person, more than tripling the $95 penalty those who did not enroll had to pay the first time around.
Children under the age of 18 will be fined $162.50. The maximum amount an uninsured family will be penalized is $975 under the flat-rate method.
The penalty is meant to incentivize people to get coverage, Laura Adams, senior analyst of InsuranceQuotes.com, told CBS News. This year, I think a lot of people are going to be in for a shock.
CBS News reports that many Obamacare plans will be charging more as a 27-year-old earning 250 percent of the poverty rate will now have to pay an average of 7 percent more for the lowest-cost bronze plan. The analysis from Investors Business Daily found that the lowest-cost silver plan will rise 9 percent and the lowest-priced catastrophic policy will go up by 18 percent.

Republicans need to stress this a LOT in the Landrieu runoff.
And we’re going to continue whipping you until morale improves.
If they are smart they will pay nothing since every single policy I’ve seen costs more than 8% of income. Ours is now running 20%.
I thought it was a tax; not a penalty.
Wasn’t that the reasoning of the worthless Chief Justice of the SC?
“The beatings will continue until morale improves.”
pResident Pillowbiter & Co.
The 95 dollar number is a deceptive myth for most people. Because most people will be paying 1 percent of there income this year and twice that next year. So if your income is 10,000 then you will be paying 100 dollars this year. And it goes up from there.
Obama - “I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”
I am enrolled in my state Medicaid.
But if I had to, I’d rather go to prison than pay that damned fine - or in enroll in an unaffordable Obamacare health plan.
Under which remember, I’d have to pay deductibles up front BEFORE the coverage kicks in. Forget it.
“Nice healthy bank account you have there. Be a shame of something happened to it.”
Sounds like extortion to me.
Mmmm, nope.
I’ll empty my accounts and stop paying anything at all.
I WILL NOT COMPLY!
We are going to hear a very loud W.T.F???????? next year as people file their tax returns and find out they have to pay a fine to Uncle Sam for not buying something they couldn’t afford.
The Republicans should enforce this
Make the LIV pay and make the aware they are paying because of Obamacare
They will win 45+ states in 2016
It is exactly that, and you can thank the pirate Roberts for the crimes to follow.
Yes, just like how the penalty of no subsidies for federal exchanges was meant to incentivize states to create their own exchanges.

Commercials showing an 8 year old asking Mom and Dad where he’s going to get $162.50 to pay his Obamacare fine.
If you are doing your taxes yourself, how are you supposed to know if your policy is compliant? What do you submit to prove you were insured? Are the insurance companies providing some sort of W2 form that indicates you had coverage the whole year, or can you sign up in November and cancel in January?
I’ve run afoul of the IRS for simple failure to file forms for business entities that never made any money and owed no taxes, and would up owing thousands of dollars. Are there penalties on top of the initial “tax” for filing or paying the thing late?
These seems like the potential to create a huge mess.
LOL - Go ask your father.
Who did not see this coming? Gotta be a short list.
