While the writer's thesis may be wrong, her title just may be right. Much to the contrary of what the author puts forth, Republicans were given a sweeping mandate to stop and roll back the abuses of the current administration, but McConnel and Boehner are now like a dog that finally caught the car they've been chasing all these years and have to figure out what to do with it.

The mandate of the voters is clear an unmistakable. It is however, also at odds with the interests of the GOPe and the so-called party leadership, and I suspect they will attempt to reconcile the two by doing as little as possible to upset the status quo. The question is how much the fresh blood in the party (i.e. Cruz, Lee, etc.) can wrest de facto leadership from the titular heads and actually implement a conservative agenda....

Spending the next two years rolling back decades of gun controlegiation would be a worthy undertaking. That and enforcing immigration law.
