Half-way into his five-year mandate the popularity of French President Francois Hollande hit a new low on Thursday, hours before the Socialist leader addresses the nation to defend his shaky record on the economy.
In the worst score for a president in modern-day polling, Hollande received a 12 percent approval rating in the monthly survey by pollster YouGov, down 15 percent from the prior month. Other recent polls have put his popularity at 13 percent.
Hollande is due later to face journalists and members of the public for a question-and-answer session on prime-time TF1 evening television. He will likely face criticism about broken promises to cut rising unemployment and public deficits.
A Harris Interactive poll published on Monday found that 92 percent of respondents said they were not satisfied with Hollande's track record, with 96 percent saying he had not held to his campaign promises made before coming to power in 2012.

12% hahahahhaha!
That’s where Obama’s belongs!
At this rate, it looks like Marine Le Pen will walk into the French presidency.
maybe they don’t think he is socialist enough
12%??? That’s really not even kind of good.
And yet, when they vote a conservative in and he remotely tries to cut spending or benefits, there will be riots in the street and the Socialists’ popularity will skyrocket. France is in the thrall of a government spending heroin addiction that may be impossible to break.
unlike Obama, Holland doesn’t have the support of 13% of the population because of his skin tone. Otherwise Obama would have numbers like this!
I would guess that even the Ebola virus has a higher approval rating than 12%.
The French, alas, are smarter than Americans. This number is where Obama should be. At best.
Ho hum.
Another nation of pampered dimwits elects a socialist who is going to fix everything.
Then a couple of years later the place is a disaster area and everyone hates him.
How many times has this happened?
welcome to the club. elections matter, froggies!
Do they still do the guillotine over there?
Pray America is waking
France finally ran out of other peoples’ money, right?
Frenchies played again. What the hell did they think a socialist was going to do? Idiots.
It sounds as if he is unpopular because he cannot repeal the laws of physics or economics.
Adults who have false premises about the nature of reality will always find a way to blame failure on something other than the nature of reality.
I suspect the socialist wisdom in France is that he “betrayed the revolution”, because he could not deliver the impossible.
I hope that I am wrong.
