This could be the nicest thing you read today, via the Wall Street Journal:
A West Virginia University freshman who did most of her campaigning out of her dorm room became the youngest state lawmaker in the nation Tuesday.
Republican Saira Blair, a fiscally conservative 18-year-old, will represent a small district in West Virginias eastern panhandle, about 1½ hours outside Washington, D.C., after defeating her Democratic opponent 63% to 30%, according to the Associated Press. A third candidate got 7% of the vote.
In a statement, Ms. Blair thanked her supporters and family, as well as her opponents for running a positive campaign. History has been made tonight in West Virginia, and while I am proud of all that we have accomplished together, it is the future of this state that is now my singular focus, she said.
Ms. Blair campaigned on a pledge to work to reduce certain taxes on businesses, and she also holds antiabortion and pro-gun positions. She defeated Democrat Layne Diehl, a 44-year-old Martinsburg attorney, whose top priorities included improving secondary education and solving the states drug epidemic.

I hope that more experienced Republicans prepared her for this.
I agree.
The liberal war on women continues . Amazing story. Congratulations to her.
You have no idea how cancelled my vote is in NY., And I live upstate its mostly Conservative. Target practice right in my backyard, very rural.
NYC kills us.
“I wish that all Repubs stated their political views & positions as simple & eloquent as Saira Blair did. No wonder the liberal left hates her so much! Shes is honest, forthright, with conservative (& Biblical views I might add) views & positions.”

A baby Sarah Palin....I wish we had more like her.
No matter how mature and well-intentioned that young lady is, no 18-year-old has the life experiences yet to fight in the nasty rough-and-tumble world of partisan politics. I wish her well, she may wonder what hit her.
She’ll be busy fending off the liberal lesbian predators and chicken hawks in the opposing party.
The GOP establishment could take a lesson from her. Their message: We’re not him and...crickets.
“It helps to read the entire article.”
LOL
Post first and ask questions later, I say! ;)
She can be pro-family, but she has never experienced being the head of a family, or the sole provider for a dependant child, or faced the hard decisions that parents must deal with every day when it comes to their income and their childrens education. She can be pro-marriage, but she is not married herself and so there is a whole range of experience that she does not have and which she will not be able to draw on when it comes to her legislative duties. Her fiscal policy can be fiscally conservative in theory, but her practice of balancing a budget and facing up to fiscal matters that adults handle every day is seriously lacking. Miss Blair is undoubtedly impressive for what she has accomplished so far in her short life and for what she can no doubt achieve in the future, but at this time one question lingers about her: should she be allowed to participate in running a state when she has little to no experience in running her own adult life? I make no doubt that that is a lefty site, but those are actually pretty valid questions. But the answer, IMHO, is that sound theory beats creativity which amounts to nothing more than ignorance of the fact that most ideas have already been tried, and failed before - and will fail again if tried again.Whenever I hear of new progressive ideas, Im reminded of the story in the Readers Digest, which went something like this:
During WWII, I got the task of inventorying the battle damage on aircraft which had been damaged in battle over Europe. A Sergeant asked me what I was doing, and I told him. He asked, What are you going to do that that information? and I replied, When we find out where airplanes get hit, we might put armor in those places. And that, I submit, is conservatism.Son, he replied, airplanes get hit everywhere, and youre only looking at the ones that got back. You find out where those planes got hit, you put your armor everywhere else.
Now, you know, ain't nobody got time for dat!
When I was 18, the only thing I knew about politics was that I liked Reagan.
Fiscal conservative?
Left Wing ?
Right Wing ?
The political spectrum?
Social conservatives?
None of that was anywhere near my radar.
She’s more knowledgable about Politics than I was at her age, but I bet if we sat down and start asking her questions, she’s not as smart as some of us think she is.
I mean if you asked her some questions we would considered elemetary questions, she’s going to miss some of them.
She might even think there’s 57 states.
And does she know what a Lewinsky is?
I do understand. My upstate county went over 60% for Astorino over Cuomo. It did my heart good to see that other counties rejected Cuomo even worse. NYC hasn’t considered they’re killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
You have me beat on the backyard target practice. The target practice on our road is next door.
It’s a great place to live, if the downstate political crooks and thieves would let us be.
That is the single worst thing you can do while on Free Republic.

oops, you did
Apparently, I heard, her dad is a State Senator or something
