(CNSNews.com) - Republican Senators Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Lee of Utah, Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Pat Roberts of Kansas, Mike Crapo of Idaho, and David Vitter of Louisiana sent a letter to lame-duck Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada today saying that if President Obama takes unilateral action to grant amnesty to illegal aliens it "will create a constitutional crisis."
The senators told Reid that they would assist him in enacting a measure to stop Obama from unilaterally granting an amnesty, but that if Reid lets Obama go forward with such an amnesty they "would use all procedural means necessary" to make the Senate focus on the constitutional crisis they say that this "lawless amnesty" would create.
On Dec. 11, the continuing resolution now funding the government will expire. Before that date, both Houses of Congress will need to approve a new continuing resolution to fund the government beyond that date.
If the CR does not permit the Executive Branch to spend money on some action, the Executive Branch cannot take that action.
"We write to express our alarm with President Obama's announced intention to take unilateral executive action by the end of this year to lawlessly grant amnesty to immigrants who have entered the country illegally," the senators wrote Reid.
"The Supreme Court has recognized that 'over no conceivable subject is the power of Congress more complete' than its power over immigration," the senators said. "Therefore, President Obama will be exercising powers properly belonging to Congress if he makes good his threat.
"This will create a constitutional crisis that demands action by Congress to restore the separation of powers," the senators told Reid.
"As majority leader of the Senate, you have the responsibility of not only representing the citizens of your state, but also of protecting the Constitution through vigilant exercise of the checks and balances provided under the Constitution," wrote Cruz, Lee, Sessions, Roberts, Crapo and Vitter.
"Therefore, we write to offer our full assistance in ensuring expeditious Senate debate and passage for a measure that preserves the power of Congress by blocking any action the president may take to violate the Constitution and unilaterally grant amnesty," the senators said.
"[H]owever," they continued, "should you decline to defend the Senate and the Constitution from executive overreach, the undersigned senators will use all procedural means necessary to return the Senate's focus during the lame duck session to resolving the constitutional crisis created by President Obama's lawless amnesty."
This doesn’t have the same air of a fake Boehner lawsuit. This is shockingly blunt.
Reaganesque. Literally.
Is there any chance that McConnell could be replaced by some other Republican? He is ineffective as a Senate leader; many do not look forward to working with him.
Get some other Republican like Cruz or Lee or ...?

I’ll change my mind about Roberts if he’s still doing stuff like this in two years.
Cotton has shown backbone and squeamishness. I wonder how he’s going to do.
Ted’s going to have Yertle and the other RINO’s snarfing Midol like Tic-Tacs before this is all over...
“Has he moved back to KS yet? Then maybe.”
Being I’m not a resident of the state myself, I’m not really that close to the issue. But from where I sit, I’m not all that concerned where the Senator spends his time as long as he stands for our principles and votes the right way — which it appears Senator Roberts does over 90% of the time according to Heritage Action and other conservative groups.
I’m not concerned where he actually lives. I am concerned about him lying to his base about such a minor thing.
It’s good to hear that the immigration warriors are in uniform & ready for the first volley.
Also, we need to send a DEFUND CHARITIES message to Senator Jeff Sessions & these guys mentioned as it is how the UAC embedment/legalization from Central America is played. The charities are funded millions to provide relief thereby adding abetting this nightmare. I have also been tracking the UN trafficking law that GW left for us in 2000. Every few years it is REAUTHORIZED in the name of stopping human trafficking but actually promotes human slavery. Lawyers everywhere are in training to LEGALIZE UAC’s using the UN LAW & loopholed big time in 2008. This law must be completely obliterated. It ain’t just DACA...trust me.
I thought he was still the Minority Leader...
I've never seen him so excited for what can be done now. He was positively over the top giddy.
Kinda puts to rest the idea we should have stayed away from the polls to teach a lesson to the RINO's. I wonder what some of those negbomb preachers on FR will say about Palin and Cruz being so happy with last nights results......
The libs and panty waist conservatives keep telling me that Cruz is strident and arrogant and extreme and not presidential material, but every time I hear him speak for himself, he is the exact opposite: rational, articulate, intelligent, and NOT hyper partisan.
Today at presser, Mcconnell was asked about the vote for Senate majority and I think Cruz’s name was thrown in the query. Turtle made it very clear that HE WOULD BE SENATE MAJORITY LEADER in a week’s time.
Same thing we always have lake. No are you going to help holding the promised feet to the fire or bitch about us uselessly?
Your boi Miotch is still Soetoro’s biotch until proven otherwise. The ball is in Miotch’s court and he won’t fight.
stop the marxist/democrat creep Obama from using an executive order to give amnesty to illegals . that is a criminal unconstitutional act by Obama
Go Ted Cruz and Vitter!
Americans don't have jobs and these democrat villains want to bring in hordes of 3rd world illegals and give them our jobs etc.
You come here pretending to be conservative, pretending to like Cruz and Palin, yet you can't celebrate with them when they put the GOP over the top and take away power from the totalitarian left.
Typical confused Normy.....
Help or don’t. Rinos won. I lost. I deal. you do whatever. Either help or don’t but don’t disrupt another thread with your personal vendetta.
I don't. It's high time some of the folks on our side started playing hardball with the enemies of our republic -- and did so with no holds barred.
I don't understand how you can criticize Cruz' firm, but civil tactics, after what Obama and the Dems have done to us (and our guys) over the last eight years.
As Rush said on his show today, the mandate of this election is clear: the people want the Republicans to STOP Obama in his tracks. We may have to break a few noses to do that.
