I'm no fan of McConnell but over the last few months it became obvious to me why he's had such a long career in politics. For all his flaws, he sure knows how to run a winning campaign. He pretty much sealed his victory some weeks ago in a debate against Grimes when he laid out the best one-line campaign statement of the year:

"How can my opponent claim to be running as a candidate for change when her first act in office would be to re-elect Harry Reid as the Senate majority leader?"

The GOP campaign theme this year really ended up being this simple.
