When I visited Auschwitz you could still see the double fences that had once carried boatloads of electricity. Maybe they can fire those puppies up again, to help curtail theft. Unless Dachau doesn’t have the electrified fences.
What would you do with it??? Can’t set it up in the front yard for the neighbors to admire. Can’t keep it in your house for fear a plumber, appliance repairman, etc., might see it someday and turn you in. No, I think this is absolute proof Adolf Hitler didn’t die in that bunker afterall!

After the sign at Auschwitz was recovered and repaired, a replica was installed over the camp’s main gate. The original was placed on display in a secure location.

I guess there were no foot prints in the snow to follow this time. When the sign at Auschwitz was stolen a couple of years ago, the Poles recovered it, but they were smart, they replaced it with a replica. It was never hard to get into Dachau, but getting out was a problem.
I have been to that gate, and touched it when I visited Dachau while in the Army back in the early 1970’s. From what I understand, that is NOT the original. The original “Arbeit Macht Frei” was taken by a G.I. soon after the war was over.
Isn’t this an old story? I coulda swore I heard about this happening a while back. Maybe I was just dreaming it was stolen... which is an odd dream to have.
