CDC Now Says Ebola Droplets Can Spread Six Feet, Not Three

HOW GERMS SPREAD

What’s the difference between infections spread through the air or by droplets?

AIRBORNE SPREAD

Airborne spread happens when germs float through the air after a person talks, coughs, or sneezes. Those germs can be inhaled even after the original person is no longer nearby. Direct contact with the infectious person is NOT needed for someone else to get sick. Germs like chicken pox and TB are spread through the air.

DROPLET SPREAD

Droplet spread happens when droplets that are coughed or sneezed from a sick person splash the eyes, nose, or mouth of another person, or cause environmental contamination, like a soiled bathroom surface or handrails, from which another person can pick up the infectious material.A person might also get infected by touching a surface or object that has germs on it and then touching their eyes, mouth or nose. Droplets generally travel shorter distances, less than about 6 feet from a source patient. Germs like plague, meningitis, and Ebola can be spread through large droplets.

Now, maybe some of those people who were screaming and sending in some hilarious cartoons (run for lives, panic) will kind of understand why some of us were a little worried that the CDC was not forthcoming with information. When my own physician told me he didn’t even know all of the facts on Ebola, I knew then to be cautious on the CDC.

My boss was flying commercial last week and he saw passengers on his airplane wearing doubled-up painter's masks, jackets zipped to the neck, and large sunglasses for the whole flight.

Can't say that I entirely disagree with the attempts those people are making to keep themselves a bit safer given all this misinformation/disinformation we are being provided. It must weigh heavily on a frequent flyer.

I say put your money where your mouth is. If some so called expert claims that a person can’t catch it by being within 6 feet (or whatever), as a proof experiment, how about if they sit within 6 feet an infected person.

No? Then shut up.

Two nurses got it “when they shouldn’t have.”

Just to be fair, set the rule at 4 1/2 feet.
Seems right to me. If there’s any other issue,
change the number so that I feel better. That’s ME!

Wonder if the Epidemiologist Judge will change her restrictions now? He must have gone to the same school that made Algore an expert in climate.

“I have read in some posts that a sneeze can spread up to 20 feet.”

FR: CDC Says Ebola Droplets Can Only Travel 3 Feet … But MIT Research Shows Sneezes Can Travel Up to 20

air travel is defined differently. they are playing small games with words.

it is like a chemical not being ‘flammable’ or ‘combustible’...

the chemical can still burn really good, it just doesn’t meet the definitions.

Thus, the information on the droplet spread is not new.

the 6 foot mark is 2x the supposed sneeze distance of 3 feet.

the smaller droplets that carry further, dry out quicker.
the larger droplets take longer to dry out, but don’t travel as far.

virus can live up to 1-3 hours outside the body (per cdc. is it really dead or just dehydrated?)

up to 5 days on some surfaces in cold weather.

they just regenerated a 900 year old virus from animal poo. So if it gets deep frozen, it can live for a much longer time.

(all information subject to change as the virus shows us its capabilities)

It’s sure a good thing that we also have the FDA for good, sound, uncorrupted advice on what to put in our bodies too.
