Cruz on Apple CEO Tim Cook being gay: 'Personal decision'
The Hill ^ | October 30, 2014 | Peter Sullivan

Posted on 10/30/2014 12:23:27 PM PDT by BurningOak

"Those are his personal choices. I’ll tell you, I love my iPhone," Cruz said.

"Listen, Tim Cook makes his personal decisions, and that is his life. My focus is on the constitutional question of who has the authority to make decisions," he later added.

Cruz said that marriage is a "question for the states" because of the country's federalist system.

"This is something we’ve seen over and over again, which is the federal government and federal courts deciding they don’t trust the people," Cruz said. "They look down on the people, they don’t trust us to make judgments about our own lives, so the federal government and federal courts are going to step in and impose their own policy preferences."

Before anyone goes spouting off ignorant posts about how I am colluding with progressives or some such nonsense just know that if you are one of these “purists” it is you who are playing right into their hands. You are fighting the war on their terms.

I want the country moved to the right, probably further than most. I am am realistic enough to know that it is not going to happen in one election or overnight.

Please offer your definition of purist and purism. It sounds as if you are slighting a substantial number of Constitutional conservatives here in your zeal to get Republican votes increased this Tuesday.

What are you asking these "purists" to do?

The corruption in our present society will not be turned back by sitting home or refusing to vote for a candidate who is manifestly better than the Democrat Socialist opposition, just because the arguably more conservative choice is not perfect enough

Nor will it be turned back by running out and voting for the nearest RINO. Corruption can only be turned back by the people as a whole becoming less corrupt. Instead we are becoming more corrupt. Our great experiment of savior and example to the rest of the world will come to an end on the path we are on. Having a couple extra RINOs to gain a majority here or there won't change that. The people must change and it is only through conservative candidates that they will have an example of how to change. They may refuse but there is nothing we can do about that.

The solution is to address the actual problem; Liberal control of News and Entertainment.

That's true. I did my part in 1999 by swithing off the TV for the last time. That is hardly going to save the world though and the media and the socialists and atheists support each other and are a billion times more powerful than I am.

We need to vote for the available candidates with the best views, rather than waiting for the perfect candidate who's not coming...

The only reason to vote for the lesser of two evils is delay. But delay won't save this great country. Perhaps there is some truth to the idea that the sooner we reach the bottom the more pieces we will have left to recreate Christian America.

I did my part in 1999 by switching off the TV for the last time. That is hardly going to save the world though and the media and the socialists and atheists support each other and are a billion times more powerful than I am.

Their power has been stolen and is based on lies. Won't stand the test of time. I believe the Truth wins out over all, when the full story is told.

Each individual matters.

Just liked murder, sodomy is still the capital offense that God declared it to be whether it's a private affair or not and whether our government chooses to do it's duty and prosecute it or not. If people and their leaders try to avoid the fight by merely saying that sodomy is a "private affair" then, as is obvious to all, it is increasingly becoming a protected right and even a public celebration.

My religion is opposed to gay marriage. But it seems to be quite the thing in at least 1/3 of the world now, either gay marriage or gay acceptance.

Well now, that is precisely the point. As that 1/3 becomes more and more vocal, and more and more numerous, the fewer your freedoms to voice objections will be.

For example, if a public school teacher were to prepare a lesson plan mentioning religious objection, or legal objection, to gay "marriage," that teacher would be in some difficulty (to put it mildly) right now. IOW, the proponents of gay "marriage" have more rights right now, than do you, or I.

Doesn't sound to me like all that fair a deal.

As I have already stated above. But that won't happen in time for the next two elections, when a stay-at-home is the same as a vote for the evil party that has taken over government, which we do have the numbers to stop if only people would realize they are throwing all hope away by refusing to vote for an imperfect candidate. We simply cannot elect the actual Messiah to public office. We must make do with mere humans. Some are less imperfect than others.

Can the stupid (party) stop the evil party? I realize there are cases where some evil can be stopped, but not the relentless takeover by big government and the amoral and immoral decrees that go with big government.

The only way to recreate a Christian America is to convert the vast majority of Americans to an actual surrendered belief in the gospels and to Jesus as their Savior, as you can't be born a Christian. The nation was founded by people who were professing and practicing Christians, and whether or not each of the Founders was so, all of them were at the very least Deists who accepted JudeoChristian social norms. Today, those social norms are not even practiced by the majority of nominal Christians.

Make no mistake; I am totally in favor of reinvigorating a society based on Christian principles, which in turn gives way for others to live here unmolested without forcing unbelievers to adopt the Christian religion as their own; and more importantly, builds support for people with those principles to take public office and run our institutions.

But holding one's breath and refusing to participate in a flawed human election process until a large-scale Christian reawakening happens, as the rigid purists vow to do, will do the opposite of helping it to happen.

That's true in the short run. In the long run, who knows? Once I posted here (2008 primaries) a "we need to do something to stop Romney" message. I was told that we needed to pray. It was frustrating, but correct. Obviously we can do small things like voting for Tweedledee instead of Tweedledum, but that is not a real choice.

One possible alternative is to let the Republican party implode into its country club core leaving room for a third party. The system will make that difficult and the evil party will get a better foothold in the meantime. But that would be worth it.

Reality is what it is; it is not what we wish it were. Romney was the only choice last time, other than Obama. To avoid "choosing" Romney resulted in choosing Obama by default.

This is the main difference in our opinions: I don't believe we have the time left for any kind of a long term. The evil party already has vastly, vastly more than a foothold. They have captured every major institution in society — education, government, the judiciary, regulatory agencies, the media and quite a number of liberalized churches and foundations — except for selected islands of churches that are "clinging" to the apostolic faith, which the left is now busily trying to outlaw and make illegal. They are trying to eliminate the Bill of Rights, natural procreational rights, any vestige of privacy in communications or finance, paper money, citizenship, national borders and sovereignty, and are making laws and regulations faster than any human can keep up with, making all of us potentially criminals in some way at all times. They have militarized police, built "containment" encampments, bought up 300 rounds of ammunition for every man, woman and child in the nation, have inserted illegals and plague-diseased persons in our midst, taxed the economics of private homeownership so heavily that we might as well just rent properties, and are homosexualizing the classrooms, the boardrooms and the military. Where is the long-term that you see here?

I agree wholeheartedly with your entire post until this final paragraph. The mantra that you and others on FR seems to be repeating is that if one does not vote Republican in every instance next Tuesday, he/she will not be going to the polls and will stay home and pout.

What you call "rigid purists" could also be FReepers voting as their conscience dictates.

And about "rigid purists" "holding...breath and refusing to participate in a flawed human election process until...", well, you made that up.

Sorry, I was not clear. I was posting during the primaries to try to get donations and other support for republican alternatives to Romney (almost anyone was better at that point).

They have militarized police, built "containment" encampments, bought up 300 rounds of ammunition for every man, woman and child in the nation, have inserted illegals and plague-diseased persons in our midst,

All true and mostly supported by the lessers of two evils that we went out and voted for. The root of the problem is immorality (gimme class) feeding amorality (large government). Can't be trimmed or managed. We simply need to stand up for moral principles including small government and patiently wait for people to join. If there's a collapse in the meantime, so be it.

Where is the long-term that you see here?

Looking at your list, the long term is everything that is not on your list. Church, family, well-run local government, safe communities or rural areas.
