New Democrat Tactic: "Voter Shaming"

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay, what is voter shaming? In North Carolina they're having the same problem, the Democrats are. It's not as pronounced as Colorado because Kay Hagan hasn't begun the silly implosion. Actually she has. It just hasn't registered yet. I mean, this woman, stimulus money went to her family? Her family is wealthy. She's flip-flopped on all kinds of things. The incompetence that is finally on display that is the Democrat Party, is just not a surprise to me, but so many people are finally seeing it.

They're reacting in ways that we would all hope.

"The North Carolina Democratic Party appears to be using a 'voter shaming' tactic to spur turnout in this year's election. Voters in at least four counties -- Wake, Durham, Orange and New Hanover -- report receiving two different versions of letters from the party. One gives them a 'report card' on their prior voting history -- most are deemed 'average' -- while the other suggests the voter in question would be surveyed as to whether or not they cast a ballot in this year's general election.

"The letters use Democratic Party logos, and the survey letter is signed by Patsy Keever, who is given the title of 'election day coordinator' on the letter. Keever is a former state representative who is a vice chairwoman of the North Carolina Democratic Party. The letters carry a disclaimer that they were 'Paid for by the North Carolina Democratic Party.' Officials with the Democratic Party, including Keever, Chairman Randy Voller and executive director Casey Mann, did not immediately return phone calls, text messages and emails seeking comment," by the Drive-Bys.

"Keever later in the evening issued a written statement in response to questions about the fliers. 'This is a critical election and it's important to make sure our voters are getting out to vote,' Keever wrote. 'That includes stressing the importance of voting, talking about the voting process and what the stakes are for North Carolina,' said First Vice Chair Patsy Keever. 'We will continue to look for every way possible to empower, educate, and encourage voters for the remainder of this election cycle.'

"The voter survey letter says 'public records will tell the community at-large whether you vote or not. As a service, our organization monitors turnout in your community, and it would be an understatement to say that we are disappointed by the inconsistent voting of many of your neighbors.' It goes on to say the recipient has been selected to participate in a survey about the voting experience and asks the voter take notes on the type of machines used.

"'If you do not vote this year, we will be interested to hear why not,' the letter says. Known as 'voter shaming' or 'social pressure,' the tactic first emerged widely in 2012," and its intention is to motivate voters to go to the polls by making them think they're being monitored and that the officials will know if they do or don't vote -- and, of course, it would be much better for them if they do. Good, old-fashioned peer pressure. But here's the thing about this.

If you ask me, this kind of thing could backfire big time. What is the main African-American argument against voter ID, Mr. Snerdley? (interruption) No. The primary agent of fear employed is, "They don't care whether you vote! They want to find out where you are. The Man wants to find out who you are. The Man wants to be able to track you," right? That's what they tell people the voter ID is really for, and they scare them by that the voter ID is nothing more than The Man being able to track 'em.

This is a common ploy used by the Reverend Jackson and Al Sharpton and any of these other civil rights activists who are opposed to voter ID, because without voter ID, they can cheat. With voter ID it's tougher and tougher to cheat. So they prey on the fears of African-Americans who have already been told to distrust the authorities. And the voter ID is just a trick.

Okay, so in the midst of that, what do they do? They send out letters that promise to track whether these people vote or not, to try to shame them into voting. I think this could end up scaring some black voters rather than shaming them. You know, they don't want to get their photo ID because they're afraid of being spied on or studied or tracked or what have you.

And now they have election officials, even though it's Democrat Party officials, they've got Democrat Party election officials sending them letters telling them they're being watched and telling them that they know whether these people have voted or not and that they will know whether they vote this time or not and that their neighbors will know whether they've voted or not, and they will know whether the neighbors know. So I'm not sure how this is gonna play out. But once again, it's another sign of desperation on the Democrat Party side about the election and vote turnout and all of these things that are tied into it.

Really? You actually believe somehow "they" forced everyone to vote for him?

You need to reexamine some reality sir.

Once he won (and trust me, it pains me to say this because I supported Newt, he beat Newt because Newt made himself beatable).

I didn't like him at all, but leaving the Marxist in office, that was the dumbest thing anyone here ever did. No sane conservative, not Palin, not Newt advocated that. They understood the consequences of leaving this group in office, unfortunately people like you didn't. Congrats, you can list the wonderful things such brilliant thinking got you.......and unfortunately the rest of us.....

But yet you do not think Romney made himself beatable? Only Newt did?

Romney was the least likely to win in Nov of the bunch

The GOPE is doing the same darn thing! We got one in yesterday's mail saying conservatives staying home in 2012 were responsible for Obama’s re-election.

DemRATs lost the moral authority to shame anyone when for years they preached the virtue of killing domestic unborn to control population only to throw open the doors to unlimited undocumented immigration.

If you didn’t vote for Romney, you in essence voted for Obama. You didn’t cancel out a vote for Obama like you COULD have, so therefore Obama got an extra vote!!!

"The North Carolina Democratic Party is really desperate---and is using 'voter shaming' tactics to spur turnout. Democrats get a 'report card' on their prior voting history. Another Democrat letter suggests the voter would be "surveyed" as to whether or not they cast a ballot in this year's general election.

==================================================

Rush explained it well. If the minority population is afraid of voter ID, just where the hell does this land them?

========================================================

The tactic is well-known in dictatorships. The Democrat Party letter hints that govt benefits bestowed by "benevolent Democrats" are being perused---and would be in jeopardy if he/she doesn't vote.
