Pressure Grows for Marines to Lower Standards for Women

When it was reported at the beginning of October that three female Marine officers had passed the Combat Endurance Test (CET), the initial entry screener for the Corp’s challenging Infantry Officer Course, the news was widely reported. You can read about it here, here, here, here, here, and here.

The story was indeed news. Up to that point, of the 24 women who had attempted the CET, only one had passed, and she had reportedly later been dropped from the overall course due to an injury. Struggling to get enough female officers into the course to produce a statistically significant result for its study of introducing women into combat roles, the Corps had directed that more seasoned female officers could attempt the course. Now three had made it over the first hurdle.

When all three were cut from the course last week for not meeting physical standards in subsequent training events, the news was not as widely reported. I have only found it here in the Christian Science Monitor, which, to its credit, has closely covered this issue from start:

It can’t be! Women and men are exactly alike, except women are smarter, of course. These patriarchal standards must be eradicated! There is no reason combat should be a physical endeavor. That’s like so medieval or something.

The truth is that many occupational specialties already lowered their physical standards to allow women, but allowances and avoidance can only take you so far. Everyone knows there are many men who can’t perform these positions either.

We’ve all been there when that weakling or fat bastard couldn’t do the job and they washed out. Age, sex and size matter when you’re required to do the heavy lifting. And there’s no getting away from heavy lifting when you may have to carry your 200 lb buddy off the field.

Why are any women let into the Marines?

It’s inevitable that standards will be lowered because otherwise there will never be enough women making it to satisfy the Left. A lowering of standards was hinted at from the get go when the policy change was made.

At first Panetta claimed that standards would not be lowered. Not long after that, Dempsey contradicted his boss and said that if standards prove to be too high for women then the service will have to justify and defend that standard. In other words, Dempsey was saying that the standards will be lowered.

I was a little surprised at him admitting this. I always thought it more likely that the standards would officially remain as they are, but that they’d be unofficially ignored as irresistible pressure to mint more women-in-combat from the top would filter its way down.

Having served in the Marine Corps for over nine years, I served with many good Female Marines.

However, biology is biology. MOST women are simply NOT capable of the same physical stress and extremes as MOST men - PERIOD!

I am a safety manager for a national electrical contractor. The fact is that women are more susceptible to electrocution than men. Women typically feel shock at 2/3 of the voltage which men feel it. It isn’t because they are incapable of being good electricians, it is because women typically have more water retention than men.

That little DAMN thing called B-I-O-L-O-G-Y just keeps getting in the way of all these feminazi, social-justice, everyone-is-equal-and-the-same SOCIALISTS!

When will these idiots stop trying to convince us that nature isn’t natural?!?

Let's see...

A month or so ago some numb-skull is caught punching his girl friend in and elevator - and a huge cry goes up about abusing women. (And I am in agreement)

Now there is a huge cry about lowering standards so more women can be in combat (Which I am completely against)

And anyone that supports both of these arguments is a complete asshat. Women shouldn't be punched by men, and women DO NOT belong in combat (Where many things worse than punching will occur.) But what do you bet many of the people condemning the punching are also demanding women be allowed in combat.

Yep. This is what it takes to be a Marine, period. If you could get by with less, the standard would be lower - for everyone.

Yesterday I was at the National Museum of the Pacific War (Admiral Nimitz Museum) in Fredericksburg, TX. It covers information about the Pacific area from the 1800’s through the end of WWII.
One of the last exhibits/posters/plaques is a statement from Adm. Chester Nimitz saying something to the effect that the USA was totally unprepared for the hostilities. He prayed that we would never suffer from the same condition again. Under the present stress of PC/Gender Equality/etc. Ad nauseam, I am convinced that his prayers will be unanswered.
Lowering standards to meet PC goals can only serve to deteriorate, not improve, the posture of our Armed Forces. Unfortunately, a vast majority of our current “political class” has never participated in the rigors of military life and holds those that have/do in contempt.

Doesn’t this tell the idiot Leftists anything? very officer in the Marine Corpse has gone through and PASSED this course. Every one. Yet, not one woman, not one, has been able to do so.

It is not like they just picked these women out of the phone book. They wanted to join and where in top shape for their gender, yet they failed every one of them!

Jim, you are incorrect. This training is not for ALL officers, it is for INFANTRY officers only.

I stand corrected. But the fact remains All infantry officers have completed the training. No women have. Not one.

Well, I’m confused because so many conservatives gush over women in the military at other times. If some female veteran is running for office as a Republican or a Kurdish woman is pictured holding a gun, comments about their toughness abound. The whole idea is absurd. Women and men are not equal, women are not as strong nor as aggressive as men, etc. It’s time we stopped pretending.
