The Crisis in U.S.-Israel Relations Is Officially Here
The Atlantic ^ | 10/28/2014 | JEFFREY GOLDBERG

Posted on 10/28/2014 1:19:36 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

The Obama administration's anger is "red-hot" over Israel's settlement policies, and the Netanyahu government openly expresses contempt for Obama's understanding of the Middle East. Profound changes in the relationship may be coming.

The other day I was talking to a senior Obama administration official about the foreign leader who seems to frustrate the White House and the State Department the most. “The thing about Bibi is, he’s a chickens**t,” this official said, referring to the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, by his nickname.

This comment is representative of the gloves-off manner in which American and Israeli officials now talk about each other behind closed doors, and is yet another sign that relations between the Obama and Netanyahu governments have moved toward a full-blown crisis. The relationship between these two administrations— dual guarantors of the putatively “unbreakable” bond between the U.S. and Israel—is now the worst it's ever been, and it stands to get significantly worse after the November midterm elections. By next year, the Obama administration may actually withdraw diplomatic cover for Israel at the United Nations, but even before that, both sides are expecting a showdown over Iran, should an agreement be reached about the future of its nuclear program.

The fault for this breakdown in relations can be assigned in good part to the junior partner in the relationship, Netanyahu, and in particular, to the behavior of his cabinet. Netanyahu has told several people I’ve spoken to in recent days that he has “written off” the Obama administration, and plans to speak directly to Congress and to the American people should an Iran nuclear deal be reached. For their part, Obama administration officials express, in the words of one official, a “red-hot anger” at Netanyahu for pursuing settlement policies on the West Bank, and building policies in Jerusalem,

Not sure I’m delighted with your reply but it was your tagline that really caught my attention. It can, I think very usefully, be shorted to this: Islam is as Muslims do. And boy, look at what they do.

I live part time in one of those waiting to die compounds in broward country Florida....has all the stuff but is almost totally libtard. I spend about half the time here and the rest in South America...

Its important to remember that this area is where the first Tea Party was actually formed...some solid conservatives in S Florida...just not enough of them.

US officials say Israeli defense minister denied meetings with top Obama aides

While Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon did see Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, the officials said the White House and State Department rejected Israeli proposals for meetings with Vice President Joe Biden, national security adviser Susan Rice and Kerry on his five-day trip to the United States. The administration had sought to stop Ya'alon from seeing Power but the objections were made too late to cancel the meeting, according to the officials.

When Israel’s prime minister gives speeches to our Congress, he gets standing ovations from members of both parties. On the other hand, our president is so unpopular with members of the same Congress that even those from his own party refuse to stand on the same podium with him during this election season.

What will Israel do if Obama abandons them?

Given Israel does not have the conventional military assets to destroy Iran's nuclear program, Israel might resort to nuclear weapons, especially if given the provocation.

Obama is playing with fire & he is clueless. Israel will NOT allow another holocaust. And given the world wide repercussions of an Israeli nuclear attack, Israel might just decide that multiple nuclear attacks on its enemies is no worse than only launching one attack.

Many here at FR would applaud the nuking of multiple muslim cities. I imagine there is similar support in Israel.

Maybe Israel can use an emp pulse type bomb. No casualties! No radiation!

No crisis. It gives me hope that Israel will go off the reservation. Once we have EMA up and running, we won’t need any more super powers. We might even be head of a superpower of our own making. At the very least, we will have a defense against overbearing superpowers.

Can you imagine a Prime Minister or President of any other country, no matter how hostile it is to the US, being referred to in such a way, in an obvious leak that is meant to be publicized?

An EMP will have little effect on underground nuclear sites.

The effects of an EMP could spill over into Iran’s neighbors such as Russia, inviting nuclear retaliation.

An EMP is not a casualty free weapon. If your car goes dead - no steering, no brakes - at 60 mph you will likely die in the crash. Airplanes, perhaps from other nations passing through Iranian air space, will fall from the sky. Anyone on life support equipment is dead. Many others will die when safety systems stop working. Water supply systems will fail, leaving the population to die of thirst in the following weeks. Same for food distribution.

An EMP is a nation killer. I don’t think Israel could survive the resulting condemnation and/or retaliation. Same for nuclear weapons. Neither can be used by Israel unless it expects an imminent, devastating attack from Iran, & believes it loses more by inaction than action.

Who, oh who could this nasty little potty-mouthed 0bama official be?

My guess would be a messy little skidmark in Barry's undies called Ben Rhodes, who bares the title of deputy national security adviser for strategic communication. Ben is one of Barry's unhousebroken feces-smeared lap poodles, and he likes to chat up journolisters like Goldberg.

The thing about Obama is that he is a thug from Chicago , and calling him chickens**t would be an insult to any chicken’s rectal cavity.

Bibi Nethanyahu is leader of the free world, a position relinquished by Obama on his Egypt/Saudi Arabia apology tour.

You can see this difference by simply googling Bibi’s speech to the UN in 2009 and compare that to Obamas in the same year, years ago.

Bibi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebOsg9CCj6c

Ebolabama : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK7JEYqIfw4

Obamas treason to America and our Constitution knows no bounds. Why? Simple. Obama really is a thug. A fascist.

Well it's out in the open now!

We read in this weeks Parshat Lech Lecha

Perfect timing...
