Suffering a crisis of confidence over his leadership on Ebola a week before the midterm elections, President Barack Obama assembled a massive staff meeting on the issue at the White House Sunday.
Including the president, there were 24 people in physical attendance at the meeting CBS News said was convened to discuss a nationwide policy for health care workers returning from West Africa. Vice President Joe Biden joined via telephone, and Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Thomas Frieden and US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power joining via video teleconference.
Sunday, the New York Times reported President Obama was unhappy with the 21 day mandatory quarantine for health care workers returning from Ebola-impacted nations announced by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Behind the scenes, Obama has been pressuring the governors to lift the policy.
The quarantine made national news when its first subject, a nurse named Kaci Hickox, wrote a scathing op-ed on her forced confinement.
Attendees at the White House meeting include everyone from Secretary of State John Kerry and adviser Valeria Jarrett, to White House Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri and new Ebola Czar Ron Klain.
Here are the participants and their titles, courtesy of Mark Knoller of CBS News:

Oops....already demoted down from Czar?
Don’t know about that. Could be.
Each and everyone is a political hack. Not one has gravitas. Phooey!
The statements and actions of the Sultan and the CDC have convinced me that they want Ebola to get started in the American population. Perhaps they figure no that the CDC can’t show its stuff stopping an epidemic if the epidemic isn’t actually spreading in the population. They need to prove their worth and need an active epidemic that is really killing people in order to justify their existence. That epidemic in Africa is “over there” and folks just blow it off as an everyday African phenomenon. It needs to be brought here for the glory of the Sultan and his Bureaucrats.
Funny, I don’t see Kaci Hickox’s name there.
JEEZE!!!!
I hope no one caught anything communicable from Barry Soetoro during the meeting!!!
Kart, look closely at the second pick. That is Obola in the background.
“They are panicking “
They are in a panic about panic.
A very interesting, if long, read.
An excerpt:
Or it could be the reason we mentioned at the start of this essay: fear of fear and its close cousin panic panic. Maybe they think the American people cant take it: Theyre in panic about panicking the public. (Even if theyre not worried about panicking the public, they could be worried about getting accused of trying to panic the public.
and
Finally, teaching Americans how an Ebola pandemic in the developing world could affect their lives would give them give us all a chance to start getting through our adjustment reaction about that:
First apathy and ignorance (where most people are now);
Then denial (a longing to stay apathetic and ignorant just a little while longer);
Then over-reaction, taking precautions that may be unwise, ineffective, or premature (you cant skip that part);
Then new learning, new wisdom, and new determination to take effective action.
If there are tough times ahead, as there may be, we will face them better as a country if they dont take us quite so much by surprise.
Of course warning about an Ebola pandemic that never materializes has costs. Some peoples excessive worry could damage their health; many peoples appropriate worry could damage the stock market; everybodys irritation if the worry turns out unnecessary could damage officials reputations.
But not warning about an Ebola pandemic that catches us by surprise has much higher costs. Its not damned if you do and damned if you dont. Its darned if you do (warn) and damned if you dont.
And if our leaders dont sound the alarm, somebody else will. People will start to find out or figure out that they have bigger Ebola problems than they faced in Dallas (and now face in New York). If our leaders arent the ones who tell them, they will not trust our leaders to guide them through it.

not to mention the wasted oxygen....
Thought he would at least have a representative from all 57 states.
Any Epidemiologist invited? Medical Doctors?
Bueller, Bueller, Bueller
Shhhhh, nobody tell 0bama that when its raining, he can go to an indoor driving range to hit some balls
Absolutely nothing can be accomplished by any meeting with that many participants. It’s all Hat No Cattle.
How is it possible for them to have a meaningful discussion of 27 people? /rhetorical
Hitler, Mao and Stalin were there in Spirit.
I think they got everyone together in the White House Movie Theater to watch World War V and The Stand Miniseries.
To no one in particular - If this was airborne, they would have shut the borders weeks or months ago. I wonder if their modelling shows that if it were to become “bad” here, that because of the relative slowness of its spread, it won’t be a problem for Obama, but the next president?
The other thing is, the elites who worship at hispanic feet need to realize that there is a good possibility it will spread South of the border from Africa to the US to mexico etc.
