~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska Eielson Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located approximately 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska and just southeast of Moose Creek, Alaska.
The host unit at Eielson is the 354th Fighter Wing (354 FW) assigned to the Pacific Air Forces Eleventh Air Force. The 354 FW primary mission is to support Red Flag Alaska, a series of Pacific Air Forces commanderdirected field training exercises for U.S. Forces, provides joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close-air support, and large force employment training in a simulated combat environment. Eielson is home to the 354th Fighter Wing which is part of the Eleventh Air Force (11 AF) of Pacific Air Forces (PACAF). The 354th Fighter Wing mission is "To train, deliver, maintain and support combat power across the globe while taking care of our people, their families and our infrastructure." To accomplish that mission, the wing implements flying operations, mission support, maintenance and medical care functions and is host to 10 tenant units. The 354th Operations Group directs operations, training, and standardization of F-16CG weapons systems providing realistic combat training. The group provides training and support for expeditionary combat employment of wing assigned assets across a full spectrum of aerospace operations. Functions as primary liaison between the FAA, Army, and Air Force on all airpower applications. The 353rd Combat Training Squadron provides oversight and management of the largest air training complex in the world, the 67,000 square mile Pacific Alaska Range Complex. The unit also hosts RED FLAG-Alaska, a series of Pacific Air Forces commander-directed field training exercises for U.S. forces, providing joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close air support, and large force employment training in a simulated combat environment. The 354th Operations Support Squadron trains for and supports combat employment training for wing assigned F-16CG aircraft. Support includes airspace and flying hour programming, life support, operations training, weapons and tactics, intelligence, operations plans, and theater battle management systems, and is responsible for local air traffic control, weather service, and airfield management.
