A Front National local councillor has embarrassed France's far-Right party by announcing his recent conversion to Islam – and urging fellow members to join him.
Maxence Buttey, 22, offended officials of the anti-immigration party by sending them a video in which he praised the "visionary" virtues of the Koran and urged them to become Muslims.
Mr Buttey, a councillor in the eastern Paris suburb of Noisy-le-Grand, said the Front National and Islam had much in common.
"Both are demonised and very far from the image portrayed in the media," he told Le Parisien newspaper. "Like Islam, the FN defends the weakest. The party denounces exorbitant interest rates charged on the debt of our country, and Islam is against the practice of usury."

Why is the religious affiliation of one member of a political party somehow an embarrassment for the entire party? If it’s a problem, and given the nature of this National Front as I understand it, it is, then pull support from him, expel him from the party.
Why not, their press couldn’t be any worse, with all manner of nastiness being implied, but their support in France grows nonetheless. The name itself to me conjures up images of pogroms, and one may very well end up brewing there, but rather against Islam than the other “other” that has historically been target of strong nationalism driven by anger and fear.
I just don’t understand the purpose of every first world western nation taking in so many people who are utterly immune to assimilation and hostile to virtually every foundational principle of the west. It will lead to widespread domestic unrest, with France perhaps being on the leading edge of it.
This Maxence is 22 years old? That’s quite young to be a “local concillar”, probably more to the story than we know. I’d say this was a set up job.
Unfortunately, in France, in England but in the USA too, there are these “converts”.

If it's a prominent atheist who has been in the past a prominent advocate of evolution who then rejects it, there will be all manner of wailing and gnashing of teeth. We've seen several examples of this, and yes they do expel such people from their "party."

Makes sense, Nazis (like this filthy non-conservative party called Front National) and Muslims are natural allies in the fight against the menace of the dreaded JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZEEEE.
