Reprieve for Idaho ministers threatened with jail for not performing gay weddings

Authorities in Coeur d'Alene Idaho have buckled under the pressureof nationwide outrage at their threat to jail two ordained ministers for not performing gay marriage in their wedding chapel and declared the "Hitching Post" wedding chapel exempt from their "non-dsicrimination" law.

Boise Public Radio:

The city has been embroiled in controversy ever since the owners of the Hitching Post sued the city. They say a city anti-discrimination law threatened to force them to marry same-sex couples now that gay marriage is legal in Idaho.

The story lit up conservative and gay-rights blogs. Wedding chapel owners Donald and Evelyn Knapp said they feared jail time or fines if they declined marriage services to a same-sex couple.

Initially, the city said its anti-discrimination law did apply to the Hitching Post, since it is a commercial business. Earlier this week, Coeur d'Alene city attorney Mike Gridley sent a letter to the Knapps’ attorneys at the Alliance Defending Freedom saying the Hitching Post would have to become a not-for-profit to be exempt.

But Gridley said after further review, he determined the ordinance doesn’t specify non-profit or for-profit.

“After we've looked at this some more, we have come to the conclusion they would be exempt from our ordinance because they are a religious corporation,” Gridley explained.

Court filings show the Hitching Post reorganized earlier this month as a “religious corporation.” In the paperwork, the owners describe their deeply held beliefs that marriage should be between one man and one woman.

The Knapps' attorney said the city is about to be tested on its approach. He said the Knapps have been contacted by the police about a complaint filed on Thursday by a same-sex couple who were turned away at the Old West themed chapel.

It’s good news. But I doubt it’s the end of it. Homosexual Mafia won’t be happy until every church must accept them as pastor and members.

Marriage is a covenent defined by God, not a contract defined by man and thus able to be regulated by man’s
governments.

In Matthew chapter 19, Jesus stated it was God’s intention that only one man and one woman can be married. God defines
other sexual relations including homosexual ones as immoral. People who practice them will not be granted eternal life. (Rev 22:15).

However, we have a secular government and a First Amendment. But this cuts both ways, a fact most forget.

Because too many government officials are now hostile to how God defines marriage, government is being used to force me
to recognize and even enable “marriage” that God tells me is morally repulsive. Just as we have a separation of church
and state, we must now have a separation of marriage and state. When marriage is a private matter, then anyone can
enter into any manner of relationship they please, but they cannot use government to impose their definition on others.

We all knew that the homosexuals would, once they got marriage declared as their “right” demand that ministers and priests buckle to their will.

I didn't think they would start a wedding chapels; my mistake in hindsight it seems the perfect place for them to start. Look for the next step to a a church near you.

The separation of Church and State is fundamental to the Constitution and if this issue is allowed to go forward, the entire Constitution is subject to be shredded issue by issue.

Temporary yes, the law is still there waiting like a venomous snake to strike again.
I pray the citizens wake up and take out all involved in this injustice.

Forced by the state to abandon their religious principles against the First Amendment? Well, I guess that means they are also forced to abandon the First Commandment.

to think there are still people , just handful mind who still have no problem with the homosexuals agenda or are too stupid to understand what is going on.
To be fair though they are not conservatives but trolls and liberaltarians who pretend to be conservatives or republicans

I was thinking about what a stated forced wedding would look like:

Welcome:
"Dear friends and family [smile] we are gathered here today to join these two depraved perverts [pause] into a state sanctioned but godless union, so that they may practice their [with emphasis] abomination and defile themselves before all of nature."

“the Knapps have been contacted by the police about a complaint,,”

Any cop that dares to investigate a political crime should lose his badge. He should also meet a stonewall, and resistance if he pushes. This is pure Stasi,,,

I am waiting for cops, all over the country to wake up and start protesting Obama’s immigration policy after the shootings in CA by an illegal who had been deported twice and arrested for drug dealing, plus had gang tattoos.

Im with you, but have my doubts. There are a few bright points here and there. The Border Patrol “union”, the Oathkeepers, That Milwaukee Sheriff, Sheriff Arpio,, etc.
But overall, most are very unwilling to stand up and resist.
