Sarah Palin Reportedly Donates Only 5.5% of PAC Money to Actual Candidates
Mediaite ^ | October 20th, 2014 | Tina Nguyen

Sarah Palin‘s PAC is extremely stingy when it comes to donating money to her fellow Republicans: a report from Open Secrets reveals that since the 2014 two-year election cycle began, her PAC has raised a total of $2.7 million dollars, but only donated $150,000 of that money to actual candidates, a donation rate of 5.5%.

This year was even worse: according to SarahPAC’s third quarter filings this year, they had $1.4 million cash in hand, but only donated $45,000 to nine Congressional candidates — about 3% — between July 1st and September 30th. What did they spend the rest on?

Many of the same consultants she has used all along — for speechwriting, fundraising, logistics and research. There’s even someone paid to consult on “coalitions.” Travel, presumably for Palin, is part of the equation; a PAC like this is useful for keeping a high profile nationally without having to pay those pesky airline and hotel tabs out of personal funds. And the PAC sent $10,885 to HarperCollins — publisher of all three of Palin’s books — for “books for donor fulfillment.” That wasn’t the only book purchase by the committee: A lump sum of $13,000 was listed as being spent for “lodging, SUV rental, books for donors.”

According to OpenSecrets, Palin’s PAC is notoriously “parsimonious,” noting that “of the 417 leadership PACs that made at least one contribution in that cycle, SarahPAC was one of only 19 to give less than 10 percent of its total expenditures to candidates, other PACs or party committees.”

They also note that many of the candidates she’s donated to in this quarter are either extremely long shots or no longer in the running. For instance, she donated $5,000 to Joe Miller, a Tea Party candidate who attempted to run for the US Senate seat held by Democrat Mark Begich. “Miller lost to Dan Sullivan in the GOP primary, but Palin has not seen fit to donate to the Republican nominee, who is locked in nearly a dead heat with Begich,” Open Secrets observed, and added that Palin herself has only donated $628 to a federal candidate in her entire life.

SarahPAC has yet to publicly comment on the story.

In reading your comments in this thread I initially just thought you were very ignorant and minipulatable.

Now I see you are actively against Palin.

Why?

Well somebody is out there doing research. We can count on that. If some people get in the way, who knows...

"I must admit I’m ignorant of PAC finances and how they are handled. It would be interesting to see corresponding numbers for the Clintons and Clinton allies, to get an idea how this normally works."

“ . . . of the 417 leadership PACs that made at least one contribution in that cycle, SarahPAC was one of only 19 to give less than 10 percent of its total expenditures to candidates, other PACs or party committees.”

The above quote from the article partially answers your question, not regarding any specific PAC, but to PACs in general. If the stats are accurate, Palin's PAC was in the bottom 5% in using contributions for "other candidates, other PACs, or party committees". That doesn't look particularly good, but - yes - I'll concede it's typical of the media to pounce on Palin's PAC out of that 5% of (apparently) stingy PACs.

I’m not actively for or against her. I like her, but I don’t idolize her, like some do. I’m just calling it like I see it.

I think you don’t realize your own comments if you don’t think you are actively against her or trashing her.

Yes. Good post.

I especially like that you used the word calumny.

There are some here who will not tolerate ANY reservations about Palin regarding ANYTHING, much less any actual criticism.

Most PACs run their own ads as opposed to donating directly to candidates.

That’s the nature of a PAC .. issues first.

I don’t see how this is different than PACs on either side...

They’re scared of her getting out and campaigning for Conservatives on the ticket, just like she did for Cruz.

The snarky question was, “What did she spend the rest of the money on?

My answer: Who says she SPENT it, crap-fer-brains?!

Maybe she’s saving it for 2016. That’s when we will really need money.

She uses the PAC to pay for her political activities. Thats what its for. When people donate to her, they know they are donating to her.

If recognizing that spending 3% of the money she collects on candidates while spending far more on her own travel expenses helps a person who makes her living as a media personality more than it does individual candidates constitutes “trashing” her, OK. Guilty. Now will you admit to being a koolaid drinking sycophant?

If I were running a PAC, and I looked around and there weren’t that many candidates I found to my liking, I wouldn’t make that many campaign contributions. In fact I think it would be a breach of trust to do otherwise. What would you do?

Your digging yourself deeper.

PAC’s don’t need to contribute any money to candidates. PACs are for just such activities as travel and expenses.

This is a hit piece to reel in the ignorant and you took the bait hook, line and sinker.

Has nothing to do with being a Kool aid drinker, and using that twrm blows your cover at trying to pretend to be some sort of unbiased observer.

Again, why are you so against Sarah Palin?

Makes you wonder if she’s planning on running against Slick Willie’s wife in ‘16. Hmmmm.

I don’t think so. I absolutely adore Sarah. But, I think that she realizes that the media has succeeded in convincing much of the American Electorate that she is a dolt. I’m thinking that’s why she did not run for the Senate this year in Alaska; she wasn’t sure she’d win. A loss would have destroyed her political career. I think she will continue doing what she’s doing until her “season” is over.

When is “Mamma Grizzly” going to get a real job for a profit-making company?

What do you want her to do? Work on an assembly line or flip hamburgers?

She has written 3 NY Times bestsellers and did two highly rated TV shows. And she seems to be making a pretty good profit in everything she does.

I'd be willing to bet she pays more in income taxes than you gross.

When are you going to be 1/10 as successful as she is?
