The Chatter: McConnell loans himself $1.8M, Grimes doubles down on false claim in ad and 'Pennsyltucky' woman
Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell is combating a new wave of Democratic spending in his race against Alison Lundergan Grimes by loaning his campaign $1.8 million, Politico reported Friday.
The Washington, D.C., outlet reported that McConnells personal contribution tops investments by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Senate Majority PAC totaling $1.5 million less than two weeks before the Nov. 4 election.
A campaign official told Politico McConnells loan reinforces the Senate Republican leaders view that the National Republican Senatorial Committees resources should be spent in other midterm elections rather than his own.
Sen. McConnell has maintained a longstanding personal commitment to his members that he wont draw any resources from the team, John Ashbrook, McConnells spokesman, told Politico. So hes going to match Obamas money men out of his own pocket.
McConnell holds an $800,000 cash advantage heading into the election, $5.2 million on hand compared to $4.4 million for Grimes, according to the latest campaign finance reports.
Coal keeps the Pinnochios coming
A Grimes ad blaming McConnell for the closure of one of two coal-fired units at Big Sandy Power Plant in Louisa, Ky., was given four Pinnochios by The Washington Post Thursday.
The newspapers fact checker Grimes should be ashamed of herself for airing an ad that doubles down on a falsehood of McConnell and his wife collecting $600,000 from anti-coal efforts and makes another highly questionable assertion that McConnell did not fight for scrubbers needed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions at the plant.
The ad can be seen here:

Mitch is Obama’s @itch...I have nothing vested in seeing him contain being in office. We’ll win enough races without him.
My argument was entirely factual and based on reality - your argument about “straw men” was in of itself a straw man argument - totally generic, nothing factual to offer.
Something he never said. He said that challengers to sitting Senators would be crushed, but nothing comparable to what you just stated.
McConnell is WORSE for our cause than Grimes is. At least we know she is the enemy. We are stuck with a leader who has vowed to destroy us and serve us up to the enemy while pretending to be against everything he secretly works to enable.
Ridiculous - empowering the Lundergans to this degree with a U.S. Senate seat? That's insanity - we'd be dealing with them for decades. We have a very real chance to vanquish them this time around - defeating her and Stumbo. Instead you want to reempower them to the nth power? And we should want her because we know for sure she's an ultraliberal? What kind of logic is this?
I know you think I just pick on you but this is very serious.
Your post said...
The posers are back - claiming the only solution is to get as many ultra-liberals elected as possible, including a huge boost to the Lundergans so they can use their new found power to take over everything...again. Such true conservatives - communism or bust for them.
I didn't see anybody on this thread saying what you claimed people were saying. That's called setting up a straw man fallacy. You set up an argument that nobody was making and then you knocked it down.
You can keep trying to spin what McConnell said until the cows come home and cats learn to bark, but I know EXACTLY what he said and in the context he meant it.
His fruits of attacking Tea Party Conservatives ("who need to be punched in the nose") and undermining the Conservative agenda is self-evident to anyone daring to be honest.
McConnell pretends to be a Conservative but at every step, sabotages us behind the scenes, including his infamous assist to corruption with Cochran in MS, which makes him far more loathsome than Grimes and far more dangerous to the Conservative movement and cause than by anything Obama or Grimes could be.
I would rather Grimes get that seat than see McConnell remain in it. I'm writing in a Conservative or voting third party. I'm THAT serious.
McConnell needs to go, by any means necessary - even if it means Grimes gets the seat. I will not reward a cretin who has declared war on me and my beliefs, my vote just so he can surrender to the Democrats and empower them to block the GOP as he has already said he is going to do.
“The GOP under his rulership has enabled Obamas dictatorship to go unchallenged, and they have given us NO REASON to vote FOR them outside of scare mongering and threats. They stand for nothing but their own power.”
Bears repeating... OFTEN.
Traitors to the American people.... the lot of them.
Tar, feathers, and rope. Rinse, lather, and repeat as necessary.
