A doctor who recently returned from West Africa, where he was on an Ebola assignment for Doctors Without Borders, has tested positive for Ebola at Bellevue Hospital Center after reporting a fever and gastrointestinal symptoms, a source familiar with the results tells NBC 4 New York.

Obama utterly failed in his most basic responsibility, to keep America safe. He is the Chief Executive in charge. Ebola was a known threat. His policies allowed it to come to the US. Obama cannot hide behind congress, or behind some bureaucrat. Obama owns this abject failure. May his soul burn in hell.
I wonder if he used one of the alley’s ball? How many people might have stuck their fingers in the hole since then?
It’s impossible to find out who was on the subway with him. That’s why they’ll say you can’t catch it sitting next to someone who has it! I don’t.believe a word this administration and media says. Add in that this NYC mayor is a complete jackass and this has the real potential to be a very bad situation.
Yeah didn’t Obama say you can’t get Ebola from someone on a bus..yet that dumb ass Frieden said that you can’t get Ebola from someone on a bus but that if you DO have Ebola, you can give it to someone on a bus LOL..bunch of idiots that is who we are dealing with here
Self isolating doesn’t involve putting your a@@ on a Subway, going bowling, and taking an Uber home..if that is self isolating they need to come up with a new meaning for the word
Don’t agree. The analogy that Osterholm is using is of sparks flying in and landing. I think a huge outbreak from one such spark is unlikely, but many small outbreaks from many “sparks” all over the map is very likely, so stop the sparks from landing.
Exactly. And if he went out, then he wasn’t really self-isolating and the dim’s news conference was complete tripe. Which I think it was anyway.
The NYC Health Commissioner said in the press conference that the bowling alley has be closed as a precautionary measure until it has been evaluated.
Need those charts showing the Ebola trends in Africa!
IIRC they are exponential.
Oh I agree. But at a certain point, it is too late to stop the sparks. To use your fire analogy, a firebreak doesn’t work if it is constructed to late.
I don’t know if we have reached that point yet, but neither do they. And they keep delaying a travel ban ... dithering. If they put the ban in say after the election, then it may be too late.
I’m going to swim against the tide on this; I say there is no Ebola epidemic here in the United States, nor will there be.
The only way to keep this going is to continue to import the new cases, as is the situation with this doctor. Which, by the way, appears deliberate, as was his little trip about town.
He should be thrown in the river with cement boots.
I wonder if we in this country will get to the point of not being able to travel to “x” and “x” and “x” due to Ebola.
At the moment, no more Ebola cases in Dallas (am 20 miles from that hospital in another county).
Yeah, there are no doubt some occult cases running around already.
And I commend the doctor for all he did in Africa trying to save people, but if he came back here, and felt fatigue last night, and then decided, hey Im gonna go jogging, then on TWO subways, then to a restaurant, then bowling, then taking Uber home, Im sorry that is SO incredibly irresponsible..somewhere ISIS is thinking “Gee thanks Doc for doing the job for us”
“if this is confirmed, the people who were on the subway, how will they be located”
I’m thinking he may have taken the N or R line that connects Manhattan to Brooklyn. If so, locating the people on those heavily traveled lines is impossible. I’ve taken those lines before, there are multiple stops throughout the two boroughs with packed trains especially in the evenings around rush hour, many people departing and loading at each stop. Prayers that he didn’t contaminate the inside of the train.
Perhaps they should change the organization’s name to “Ebola Without Borders”.
This doctor graduated Wayne State Medical School in 2007. Wayne State is in Detroit, so he was probably exposed to more immediate danger there than in Africa. He then trained in Emergency Medicine at NY Presbyterian and is now a fellow in International Emergency Medicine at Columbia. These are elite appointments, so he obviously does not fit into the bottom-of-his-med-school-class category. Hence his violation of voluntary quarantine was not the result of ignorance, but of arrogance.
The way things are going, we may very well reach that point....due to Ebola, and murderous attacks of many kinds.
Sounds like you’re about to have a great deal of fun... stay safe and good luck. ;>)
Chris Christie has a procedure already in place and tested.
OK, that was funny!
