James Tully, of Candensis, does not own a car and walks to work through the search area. He has been stopped and questioned by authorities numerous times, eventually being forced to the ground at gunpoint.
The man who has been stopped by police numerous times while walking to work through the manhunt search area has been overwhelmed by the public's response, according to his mother, Linda Waddington Tully.
There have been offers of vehicles, a fundraiser, and lots of media attention.
James Tully, 39, lives off Snow Hill Road in Canadensis, which has been a key area in the search for accused cop killer Eric Frein, who is suspected to be living off the land in that region. Hundreds of armed law-enforcement officers have been searching for Frein in the area for more than a month.
Tully, who has a bad knee and does not own a car, has been walking to and from work during the late afternoon and between midnight and 2 a.m. It is a five-mile walk that takes him two hours. He has been making the daily walk for more than a year and uses his money to keep up his child support payments.
Since the manhunt began, Tully has been stopped and questioned by law enforcement officials as many as seven times in a round trip. The stops have always been simple until last week, when an unmarked law enforcement official from an unknown agency forced Tully to the ground by gunpoint, drove his knee into Tullys back, demanded to know his name, and then threatened to, "break him." After Tully provided identification, the officer continued to badger him until a state police trooper arrived and told the officer on Tullys back that it wasn't Frein.
When he was freed, Tully limped home with scrapes and bruising on his bad knee and bruised ribs that later required an X-ray at the hospital.
After the encounter made the news, Tully has received numerous offers for help. Some wanted to give him a bike but he has a bad knee and soon there will be snow on the ground.
There have been several offers of vehicles two vans and a car Tully's mother said, although it is unclear if the vehicles are in running condition, or if Tully could afford the gas and upkeep of the vehicles, she said. Tully was unavailable for an interview Wednesday because his phone is out of service and he was at work most of the day.
Now, in addition to being stopped by police, Tully has been stopped by news vans, and it has been odd seeing him on television, she says.
There have also been two "Go Fund Me" fundraisers started online. One, available at www.gofundme.com/jamestully, aims to raise $4,750, which would be $2,500 to buy Tully a car, $1,000 for his first year of car insurance, $250 for tax, tags and title, and a $1,000 gas card. As of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, one person had pledged $5.
The other Go Fund Me campaign at http://www.gofundme.com/g43pg8 aims to raise $2,500 and had raised $555 as of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
There were also two "Go Fund Me" fundraisers started online which aimed to buy a car for Tully. One promised to give any excess funds to the families of the state troopers who were shot by Frein. Some givers bristled at that suggestion and that fundraiser may have been retooled or removed. Efforts to reach the originator of that fundraiser were unsuccessful.
State police could not say which law enforcement agency the officer who held Tully on the ground was attached to. Police say they have no information pertaining to any complaints about the incident. There would have to be an official complaint, which would then be handled by the state police internal affairs department.
good
We can’t have these officers running around out there hurting friendly civilians and businesses and wasting millions of dollars much longer. It’s starting to get cold so maybe we’ll see a cutback on the search soon.
Geez, unbelievable some of the negativity here.Sounds like they're pi33ED because someone who really deserves it is getting some money and a car.I hope we can raise $20,000.There are certain situations where people no longer stand by and let evil win.2 reasons why people are being so compassionate towards James,he walks 5 miles to work and secondly people will not stand for any law enforcement trying to 'BREAK SOMEONE".I don't need any pills to get high just being part of this generous group is giving me faith. And thanks to Dawn for starting this fund!
Aw, HAILS YEAH! Now, that’s HOT!

Frein’s eyes are sloped downwards at the corners. Face is more rounded too. He’s also dark haired; this other gentleman is blond.
My guess is, the PASP is SO pissed off at how Frein has completely eluded them, that ANYONE remotely resembling that guy is fair game.
