Meanwhile doctors said Wednesday two people died in a riot the day before in eastern Sierra Leone, which erupted when health workers tried to take a blood sample from a 90-year-old woman suspected of having Ebola.

Several buildings were attacked and gangs of youths roamed the streets shouting "No more Ebola!"

Sierra Leone and neighbouring Guinea and Liberia are the epicentre of the Ebola outbreak, the world's worst ever, which has killed more than 4,500 people including a handful outside the region.

Health teams are working desperately to slow the alarming spread of the virus, with experts warning the rate of infections could reach 10,000 a week by early December.

On Wednesday the WHO launched new emergency consultations connecting policymakers and health experts in Geneva and on the ground in west Africa by video and phone.

An "Ebola riot?" Never knew we had those.

Sounds like everything is under control.

It’s precisely what you’d expect in a society where disease has the potential of wiping out your civilization, ever how marginal or meager it is. We are probably six months away from massive migration episodes where everyone in Sierra Leone is going to pack and escape. What do you think their neighbors will do in this case?

It appears that most of their neighbors are much smarter than us; people from the Ebola zones aren’t allowed in.

A misprint. I corrected it:

Several buildings were attacked and gangs of youths roamed the streets shouting "No more Obola!"

BTW, I just heard on BBC International that they are finding 100 bodies a day of Obola victims.

By March, folks will be more desperate and willing to accept risks to cross the border. I quietly think the US Army deployment into the region is more of a publicity episode to give them some hope and delay this massive migration until some wonder-drug is devised (personally, I don’t buy it the scheme).

Figure six million people in Sierra Leone...maybe 100,000 dead by early spring of 2015. That will be enough to get half the population of the country fired up to pack and try to escape. Wouldn’t surprise me if you start to see freighters off the coast of the US, hijacked by local Sierra Leone folks. How would the Coast Guard react, and do we have plans to establish quarantine camps just for these people?

If they try to migrate, and they will. Ebola will spread. How about telling any that try to come here by boat/plane/etc. That if they get within x amount of miles, they will be sunk/shot down, etc.

Perhaps people who try to leave should be shot and their bodies burned? We are sending our soldiers into this mess? Why? Symbolism? For the November election? Why? Why do Americans put up with this? What happens if 20% catch Ebola?

You '98ers can be such Debbie Downers. Look on the bright side:

Number of Ebola cases nears 10,000: WHO

As we all know, like the double-plus-good unemployment rate, the numbers are likely much higher.

The reason our soldiers are going is to contain Ebola since the countries there do not have the ability to contain it themselves. It's hardly "symbolism." The troops should have been sent months ago, before this got so big.

“No more Ebola!”

If only it were that simple.

From what I have read, many people in Sierra Leone and Liberia think the Ebola epidemic was caused by an UN vaccination program that was launched about the same time the epidemic started. I’m not agreeing with this opinion, but you can then understand why rioting starts when there is news of the WHO coming in with an experimental vaccination. That’s why they are shouting, “No more Ebola!” meaning stop the immunizations.

keeping in mind that the cagey obamites have announced that our US military in neighboring Liberia will not have any “contact with patients” but will be taking blood samples

Who knows when an incident of crowd anger and panic could turn into “World War Z” meets “BlackHawk Down”

Hail Britannia

they are sending 3,000 military and navy ships to
“blockade” the coast

I don’t see this ending well for the “humanitarian” West
