This can be gamed. Have a pre-primary primary, and put only one GOP candidate on the ballot.
It limits the mischief the libertarians and other third parties do to us. it also means that every
Democrat egomaniac could run for an open seat and the top two candidates couldbeRepublicans.
I’m still pondering this one. With all the liberal crazy parties showing up in Oregon, I’m not sure who will be helped more by this measure; Repubs or Dems. Currently, we have at least one stealth Dem running as an independent.
I’ll still write in the pro life candidate — Conger.

No system is perfect, but the jungle primary, which is something of a crapshoot, or the southern requirement that a runoff be held if the top person in the primary doesn’t reach a certain threshold, both seem to be potential routes for fixing something that doesn’t really work right now.
Pitching this as a way of keeping people from having a place to lodge a protest vote that is viewed only as a protest vote and focusing it on one issue (an issue that I value highly) is silly.
