Studies Show GOP Can Win Elections Opposing Amnesty in 2014: Impact of Latino Vote Overrated

Despite the incessant lectures from the mainstream press, establishment Republican politicians, and consultants about the need to pass amnesty legislation to appeal to Hispanic voters, two recent studies of the Latino electorate suggest that Republicans can oppose amnesty and still win elections in the midterms and beyond.

A Pew Hispanic Research study found that though a record 25.2 million Latinos (11 percent of eligible voters nationwide) are eligible to vote in the 2014 midterm elections, "in many states with close Senate and gubernatorial races this year, Latinos make up a smaller share of eligible voters." In fact, in the "eight states with close Senate races, just 4.7 percent of eligible voters on average are Latinos."

And a Washington Post analysis determined that "upcoming elections will see larger numbers of older voters," and there is a strong "correlation between seeing more older Americans and voting more heavily against Obama." The study found that "as counties got older, they were slightly less likely to support Obama" and "as they saw increased populations of Hispanics, they were slightly more likely to." But the Post's analysis concluded that there is a "very weak correlation between areas with increased Hispanic populations voting more for Obama and a very strong correlation (an r-squared value of .88, for those who care) between an increase in median age and less support for the president." According to the Post, opposing amnesty legislation "won't put the GOP at much of a disadvantage."

Electoral history shows that Latino citizens don’t vote based on immigration policy. They DO vote for social welfare programs. In 2012 the number one issue driving their votes was their support for Obamacare.

The MSM has lied for a very long time and will lie about this issue forever.

Conservatives need to stop listening to the MSM BS about immigration... (so does the rest of America).

I don’t know HOW the MSM retains the credibility it seems to, at this point. They have betrayed their charter for too long to be credible to anyone EXCEPT people (Liberals) who think just like THEY DO.

No one else goes there for ‘news’... I sure don’t and have not for YEARS!

Now if you want a laugh, and if your stomach can take it by all means, tune in to the MSM!!

The dirty little fact is although the Latino vote IS growing, that growth is, for the most part, concentrated in a few states and a small handful of urban areas, which already tend to vote democrat. So instead of “turning red states and congressional district blue” all the Latino vote is doing is turning “blue states and democrat held congressional districts bluer”

Why do they keep thinking and operating from the premise that all so-called “latinos” are in favor of illegal immigration and amnesty?

It just makes sense. The Latinos who went through the process and earned their citizenship, resent those sneaking in the back door and being granted amnesty. And, the “legal” Latinos are the ones who are eligible to vote and probably will. The illegals are NOT going to take a chance on being busted at the polling place. It just makes sense.

Indeed, it is like the French being told they need Algeria to participate and form a right wing party including that.

It is Orwellian and oxymoronic.

Does not the EXEMPT GOP also support RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE?

America HATES it, but the GOP is EXEMPT ... and is silent,
or in the case McConnell brags they will continue it.

On the other hand, the GOPe has the deep pocketed chamber of commerce whispering in their other ear.

This issue alone will let us know in no uncertain terms who calls the shots in the GOP - the voters or big business interests. There is no grey area.
