Jennifer Philips has been in America only three days, and she's already calling it home.
The 21-year-old left Liberia last week and with it childhood memories of civil war and, more recently, horrific images of dead bodies in the street from the worst ever outbreak of Ebola.
Her father, Barhyeau Philips, welcomed her Saturday at the Quad-City International Airport and brought her to his Rock Island home.
"I'm here to live," she told the Quad-City Times on Monday.
After waiting four years for a visa, Jennifer's journey began Friday at the airport in Monrovia, the Liberian capital. From there she traveled to Brussels, New York and Chicago before flying into the Quad-Cities.
A lit-up New York skyline was her first image of the United States.
She flew into JFK International Airport, recalled it was at night and said a security person approached her, referred to her by name and said another person wanted to see her. Switching back and forth between English and her native language, Krahn, she described the second as looking like a health care worker. The worker put an "instrument" to her ear and checked if she had a fever.
"He said I was OK to go," she said.

Well...isn’t that SPECIAL!
Hey Fly-Over-Country...Here is yours...
Everyone could see this coming. Checked her temperature and ok your good to go.... this is definitely going to get worse.
Oh,no. Yet another Clown Prince nobola & DIM voter in the works. When will she get her EBT card?
She'll remain quarantined until she needs to make a soup run. Will daddy and the rest of the family also be quarantined or can they go to Walmart for a warm brown blanket?
IOWA
This is NOT going to end well, anywhere!!
Joni Ernst just CLINCHED the Senate seat!!! WTG LIBERIAN LADY!!! You got MORE VOTES for Joni than ALL the VOTE FRAUD DEMOCRATS could even dream of for Bailey....uh BRALEY!!
What is the life expectancy of the airport screeners?
Open borders, hope and change.
There is no nation left on earth that practiced open borders for any length of time. The American Indians tried it; didn’t work out so well for them. Mexico tried it with TX, they were able to keep most of their country but lost everything north of the Rio Grand.
Those that fail to lean the lessons of history...
Joni’s going to make it over the top. Even the ‘Rat media long ago dubbed Braley the worst candidate this cycle. But Iowa needs votes reacting to this down ticket. We have a chance at 4/4 GOP (and only 1 of them GOPe) congressmen. We also have a longshot chance at knocking off the long serving obstructive Rat from his State Attorney perch and electing a super state treasurer (Sam Clovis retargeted from the Senate primary) over a rat. Steve King will win the 4th House seat. Braley’s understudy probably will lose his 1st House seat to a good republican. Both sides ran lousy candidates for the GOP leaning 3rd House seat where the GOPe is striving mightily to drag one of other own over that line. In my 2nd House district a potential tea party star, Marionette Miller-Meeks is striving to overcome the academic liberal incumbent Loebsack’s base of the University of Iowa. The district is less Rat leaning than in her prior two attempts. With coat tails from Branstad and Ernst and reporting as dumb as this she just might make it.
So what does she do for a living?/s
What or which are the Quad-Cities ???
Sorry, had to be done.
Un-effing-believable.
The Quad-Cities metropolitan statistical area is a collection of about 400,000 citizens, divide by the Mississippi River. The main cities are Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa and Rock Island, Moline and East Moline in Illinois. There are a host of smaller towns/villages etc on both sides of the River, all of which duplicate all government activities and offices.
If this sounds stupid, it's because it is. Needless to say, the primary form of politic power is Democrats. Currently-and to no one's surprise-Illinois is far more in the septic tank than is Iowa, and is the home of the moronic former congressman...Phil "I don't pay any attention to the Constitution" Hare.
big cities in Iowa
a likely place for African immigrant settlement
