Ebola outbreak: How Nigeria is beating the killer virus
BBC ^ | Oct 16, 2014 | David Shukman

With a population of more than 170 million, Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation and there were fears that Ebola would take hold when a Liberian-American arrived with the disease in July.

An initial contact list of 281 people soon increased to a staggering 894 - each of them visited and checked repeatedly for signs of infection. But the sleuthing did not end there. Specialists then calculated how many people were living within a particular radius of the 894 people who were being monitored. This depended on the density of the housing in each particular area. The result was that officials and volunteers embarked on rounds of visits that would take them to an extraordinary 26,000 households.

In all, there have been 19 confirmed cases of infection in Nigeria and eight deaths, including Patrick Sawyer - figures that are tragic for the families involved but infinitely smaller than they might have been.

And don’t sneeze into your hand. I saw a nurse do that during flu season.

” obama wants ebola to hurt america”

I agree - in his warped mind it’s a question of “fairness “. Why should only African countries suffer. And if Ebola comes here there will be more demand to find a cure. Just like the homosexual crowd wanted so.badly for HIV to also infect heterosexuals.

I was reading that people in Liberia suspected that Mr Sawyer was handled in a quick manner- killed by the police. I am not sure if that is true, but he was violent upon discovery of his infectious status at the airport. Asa result of that, the police decided to dispatch him.

People I have known who traveled to and from West Africa always had to make an intermediate stop in Senegal. It’s a logical place for trans-Atlantic flights to land. So with the call to ban travel from other west-African countries, it seems that Senegal would have a major role in implementing this. Also I wonder if the Thomas Eric Duncan went though Senegal. If so, they weren’t shooting people on planes from Liberia.

In the US, the Federal government is largely hampering Ebola containment efforts by not securing the borders. This is 0bama’s doing and it’s intentional because he does not want to stem the tide of undocumented Democrats. It’s sad that medical experts such as Fauci have sold out their integrity and made the Faustian bargain with 0bama.
Unfortunately, it will take municipalities and states, as well as individuals to do the job here. It is somewhat reassuring that a poor country with relatively few resources, and in close proximity to the hot zones can perform rather effectively.

Where there is a will, there is a way — as they say.

Unfortunately the will is not there in the US.
