Nurse may have had symptoms of Ebola longer than first thought

Are you on the front lines of Ebola? We'd like to hear your story.

A nurse with Ebola may have shown symptoms of the virus as many as four days before authorities once indicated, meaning that she might have been contagious while flying on not just one, but two commercial flights, officials said Thursday.

Amber Vinson was hospitalized Tuesday, one day after she took a Frontier flight from Cleveland to Dallas. Tests later found that Vinson -- who was among those who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, at Dallas' Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital -- had Ebola.

Authorities indicated Vinson had a slightly elevated temperature of 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit, which was below the fever threshold for Ebola, but didn't show any symptoms of the disease while on her Monday flight. This is significant because a person isn't contagious with Ebola, which spreads through the transmission of bodily fluids, until he or she has symptoms of the disease.

But on Thursday, Dr. Chris Braden of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told reporters in Ohio that "we have started to look at the possibility that she had symptoms going back as far as Saturday. ... We can't rule out (that) she might have had the start of her illness on Friday."(continued)

That’s just crazy! After all that has happened. Flights from there need to be shut down, well, two weeks ago.

I really sorrow for us and what has happened to this once great country. The idiots are in charge thanks to the ‘whatever’ Socialists, Marxists, Communists...the list goes on.

Their idealogy always results in staggering deaths. I never thought I’d see this playing in front of my eyes. The Holocaust is not taught anymore either, thanks to the evil that exists and runs our world.

yeah this is cheaper to kill air travel in the USA than stop flights from ebolaland..idiots in charge.

if a nurse with training and knowledge of the disease took a flight anyway what do you think poor people who may be sick will do? what do they lose by trying to travel? any penalty? duh....cdc said it was ok to jump off a cliff onto hundreds of people below..so I did it.

IIRC, the families are releasing the names when they contact news organizations.

By the time ALL these liars get their stories straight, the American nurses from Texas (SAY isn’t BUSH from Texas?) infected this poor African immigrant who stopped by the hospital to see a friend.

If not for those Texas (SAY isn’t BUSH from Texas?) nurses, our guy would be back at his high paying job in Liberia.

BO is ‘thinking’ of appointing an Ebola Czar.

I will be glad when he appoints an OBAMA Czar with the logo being a picture of BO with a red slash through it.

LORD, I will say “UNCLE UNCLE UNCLE” whatever could we have done to have this Satanic character thrust upon us?

I’m in Dallas BTW, and speaking of families, we have heard nothing from or of the Liberian Duncan guy’s people who were “whisked off “... suspicious. We are most cautious and on high alert here.

I’ve been seeing that 100.3 is supposed to be the fever threshold for Ebola. But some people have lower body temps than others. I run about 97.6, and if my temp reaches 99.0, I feel like I’m burning up. It seems to me that the fever threshold for Ebola ought to be x degrees above normal, not a specific number.

But it doesn’t matter how many contacts the people had, since they wouldn’t be symptomatic even if any of them did contract the disease by being on the same plan as the nurse. Government says we can contain this. And they know best. /s

“This is crazy. We are being told small drips of information when the bottom line is two planeloads of people may be seriously screwed in addition to random people in the airports.”

The strategy from the administration is twofold and the first part is pretty clear—voting has started in Colorado already, key Senate and governor’s race. The big mass of votes comes in in Colorado this weekend. I’m sure that’s true in other states also. Ebola is starting to show in internal polls as a strong negative for democrats (that’s why Zero had the Ebola summit and photo-op today). So part one of the strategy is to keep a lid on the negative PR for as long as possible. “We have this under control!” Like everything else, Zero sees this as a political problem, not a real problem.

Part two of the strategy is scarier. Obama also signed an executive order today allowing the National Guard to be called up to fight Ebola pretty much carte blanche. After the election, who knows where that goes, especially if things go badly for Barry.

And, I’m certain there are high-level strategy meetings about how to blame the Tea Party for Ebola coming to the US.
