Thanks to 0bama ruining the greatest economy on the planet, looks like nations all across the globe are tightening their belts and getting a clue.
I am getting old, in the 50s it was far less political and safe.
They should group certain events and have them in multiple cities instead of having a single host nation building massive infrastructure for one big event. Such a huge waste of resources...
the USOC is evidently expected to make a push for the 2024 Summer and/or 2026 Winter games...
This link may give you some visual reason why games don’t pan out.
What about all the venues that have been built in the past? Why don’t they go back to those venues and not have anyone else build any more?
There are so many venues to build the cost is ridiculous. Not to mention the all the bribes.
I am surprised there is no US city trying to get the games, but I believe that the IOC does not want to put the games in the US due to a combination of factors.
No level of US government dares give the impression they will build the Olympic stadium out of bricks of $100 bills.
The bid is generally comes from event promoters at least one step away from any city government.
US anti-corruption laws reduce the bribes that will be offered.
As a general rule it will be quite clear from the beginning that events will be scattered around a large area, not all inside even one metro area. This increases travel from the Olympic village, and is because there will be a few facilities built for the event as possible.
Build permanent summer and winter venues. Use them for training and sanctioned events every year. Split the take between the countries, based on the number of athletes they send. Sit back and laugh while you watch them argue over the crooked accounting.
Many of the points made in this article could apply to taxpayer funded sports facilities.
Jeez, I want to visit Kazakhstan or China. The IOC should have it in one place, Lake Placid.
Let Beijing do it. Big deal. I have been there and the sites alone would make it an interesting Olympics.
We had our store, our business in downtown Long Beach during the Olympics ‘84. Had to shut ‘er down. Nobody spends any money locally other than the liquor stores, hotels, restaurants during such events. Of course the City benefits with fees, taxes, etc.
Every year is Toyota Grand Prix in Long Beach, and what a mess that is. Just like the Olympics only the City coffers, the hotels, liquor stores, and restaurants make the money. Everybody else’s business takes a hit. Nobody can get to those businesses to buy anything. All the street parking, the parking lots, and the elevated parking facilities are taken. Nobody with any money wants to ride the buses to stores downtown, so for the time of the event, might as well shut down, and play solitaire.
We learned way back then what BS all the promises of money to be made by such events was.
I feel sorry for Bob Costas and NBC. They spent a lot of money to broadcast the Olympics and now no one wants to host them. /s
Valerie Jarrett controls large amounts of property in Chicago. (does not own but controls). She was the one that tried to get the Olympics in Chicago. Remember her and obama flying off to Norway to get their bribes in line? They did not offer enough as they expected to be given the olympics.
DFW area has a lot of stadiums and hotels, they’d need to add very little to host a summer olympics.
Winter? Don’t look at me.
Although the best bet to make a profit at the winter Olympics will be South Korea in 2018, if they can’t do it nobody could. lol
Jamaica man! There into the Winter Olympics.
