CDC trucks raise questions in Hickory

HICKORY, N.C. – Four tractor trailer trucks from the Centers for Disease Control triggered concerns Thursday that there was something related to Ebola going on in Hickory.

A CDC Project Manager, Janis Eklund, said there was no Ebola scare.

"Absolutely not," she said.

Eklund said the trucks are used as part of a study concerning the health and nutritional status of people living in the greater Hickory area, but she understands why seeing CDC trucks in the city triggered immediate concern.

"So, I'm hoping that once they hear that and know why we are really here, that will dispel their worries," said Eklund.

After the confirmed Ebola cases in Dallas, Texas, concern is growing.

Governor Pat McCrory, who was at a charity event in Conover, told NBC Charlotte the state is having to deal with rumor control on a daily basis, answering questions like why are CDC trucks in Hickory.

McCrory said he is now getting a briefing every day on the level of the state's preparedness should Ebola come here.

"You know, I am feeling very confident North Carolina is prepared as best as possible," he said, but added that 100% preparation is never really possible.

"This is a very dangerous disease, and we are making sure that we have trained people in place and precautions in place in case this terrible disease does come to North Carolina," McCrory said.

There have been several questions raised about how the Ebola virus was able to spread to healthcare workers in Dallas.

McCrory said North Carolina is learning from other missteps.

"Our job is to try to prevent it from coming to North Carolina, and if it happens to come, do everything we can to contain it."

I think I'd be a little concerned as well. Nothing to see here.

Hickory, NC... furniture country. Or, at least it used to be before Asian imports undercut the local industry.

The CDC can be trusted because they always tell the truth.

Yeah, it sounds pretty reasonable to need 4 semis for a nutrition study. Maybe they’re hauling the trash away after school lunchtime?

It was the CDC SWAT team there to inspect schools for compliance with Mooshel’s lunch agenda.

Probably checking on their vital research project to learn why adult male monkeys locked up alone in cages play with themselves.

Nah, no Obola there. CDC is just there to make sure they eat the food Moochelle wants them to eat.

Four tractor trailer trucks from the Centers for Disease Control .. are used as part of a study concerning the health and nutritional status of people living in the greater Hickory area

Suuuure .. pull the other one !

Coupled with the $700 in lost West African economic activity spewed by Reichminister Freiden early today, the evil bastards aren't even trying to sound plausible.

If there's any justice at all, øbola will soon show up at the Mulatto House and Freiden's digs.

More salt in the wound. Hickory scored in the top 10 most miserable cities in the US for 2014.

This kind of crap is probably being done to instill fear in certain areas prior to the elections.

Me? Screw them, I will show up at the polls because if Ebola has gotten that bad, you might as well go down fightin’.

Nothing to worry about...The CDC is probably just scouting out possible incinerator sites to burn the bodies...

The CDC apparently does lots of useless stuff but lets infected guys like Duncan ooze Ebola virus out of every pore in an unsecured environment in a Texas ICU, letting thousands become exposed and at least two nurses become infected.

Maybe they should stop the study and screen the people that are still incomprehensibly being allowed to enter the country from west Africa.

“Bye Senator Kagan”

Burr and McCain stumped for Tillis earlier this week. I don’t think much will change.

BS. You don’t need 4 tractor trailer trucks for that. Hickory is a population of 40K and the perfect spot for an islation/treatment facility in proximity to Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh.

“Eklund said the trucks are used as part of a study concerning the health and nutritional status of people living in the greater Hickory area, but she understands why seeing CDC trucks in the city triggered immediate concern.”

did anyone ask why the CDC is studying nutrition and dietary habits of people in Appalachia versus controlling actual disease?

What part of “disease control” isn’t clear?

They could just ask.

It's not like the CDC would lie, or anything!...

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Well, since most of Moochelle Obama’s school lunch program meals wind up in the trash, that could be true.... ;)
