If the 5 pastors used pulpits for politics, their sermons are fair game. Were instructions given on filling out anti-HERO petition?-A— Annise Parker (@AnniseParker) October 15, 2014
HANDING OUT WALKING AROUND MONEY
The pastors should also claim that their hard drives crashed.
Don't fall for it. Washington is licking their chops wanting to goad us into armed rebellion against their unConstitutional ways so they can lock us up.
I disagree on two counts.
First, the Bundy Ranch episode demonstrates that things haven't yet gone so far that they are willing to go after armed and determined patriots as they did with defenseless kooks in WACO.
Second, if the goal is indeed to goad us into rebellion so they start locking up large numbers of resistors to unconstitutional edicts, then balls to the walls resistance & confrontation is better sooner than later. Because it is certain that it will come later, likely when we are less capable of resistance.
The reason for my view on #2 is simple. History has shown many times that the longer bullies and aggressors are allowed to keep pushing without [serious] repercussions, the less likely they are to believe the victims really mean it when they finally say "enough, now we fight". The result then escalates far beyond what would have occurred had victims fought back much sooner.
These fascists are not going to get weaker or less inclined to commit these atrocities. Just the opposite. The only thing a bully truly understands is getting punched out. Obola has done a very good job of proving that with his appeasement oriented foreign policy.
A pastor telling a congregation the morally correct response to a political issue is not the same thing as telling a congregation they must vote for candidate X and not for candidate y. Does “giving instructions”. mean telling congregants about the petitions or does it mean telling them they must sign them. A pastor is well within the law to tell his congregation why a law is a bad law in light of Christian teaching.
She is on a fishing expedition. The request is too vague to pass Constitutional muster.
Just one question: has Houston’s most famous pastor, Joel Osteen, said anything in support of his fellow clergymen? While I recall him saying that homosexuality is a sin, he gets squishy when you ask about condemning it from the pulpit, or really taking a stand.
I’ve also gotten the impression that since his church (Lakewood) bought the former Compaq Center from the city of Houston, he’s been fairly chummy with the local political establishment.
I think Mayor Porker has done herself quite a bit of damage on this one.
A quick search elsewhere reveals this: Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO)
Gimme a flaming break. Aren't we a bit overboard with these idiotic acronyms?

Tragic waste of horseflesh.
Can anyone find Muslim sermons online?
Why is she discriminating against these 3 pastors. If it was political speech it is even more protected.
Houston city council and mayoral elections are held every two years, on odd-numbered years. So it sounds like time to begin the campaign season for next year early.
These churches should line up and vet candidates early, as well as get them organized with a whole lot of campaign issues; because you know that with people like this current bunch, you pry off the lid of city government and you are going to find a lot of worms.
