Hospital officials in New Haven have quarantined a patient with Ebola-like symptoms as a precaution.
Officials tell Eyewitness News that the patient was admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The hospital released a statement Thursday morning.
"Yale-New Haven Hospital admitted a patient late Wednesday night for evaluation of Ebola-like symptoms," the hospital said. "We have not confirmed or ruled-out any diagnosis at this point. We are working in cooperation with city, state and federal health officials. There is no further information available at this time."
Officials said they'll know more later in the day.
There's no word on the patient's condition or identity.
Mayor Toni Harp met with city officials Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the city's Emergency Operations Center. They planned to brief the media afterward. The state Department of Public Health said it was aware of the case.

He did not trump the CDC but sure sounds like he has readied the student body.

From what we’ve seen, it doesn’t take long to get a negative test but it takes two+ days to get back positive test results. The longer these potential patients are monitored, the more likely it is they have Ebola.

The patient was admitted LAST NIGHT, but nobody in the media learned it until TODAY??? Im betting the new protocol is to keep as many of these cases under wraps as they can, until after election dayIf I admitted an Ebola patient last night, I would shoot the first person who called the media.
That has nothing to do with the elections, and everything to do with the nature of the media.

From what I understand the test looks for a very specifiic number of “antibodies?” so it can show negative until you’re in full blown ebola mode

Not confirming but sounds like it...from presser.
2:3 YNHH is well equipped for and prepared to care for this patient in a safe way that will not impact any other patients in the Hospital.

New Haven mayor is saying he doesn’t believe this will turn out to be ebola. I’m not sure how a mayor is qualified to make that judgement...

Judging by everything I have seen in language addressing this patient I would say the mayor is out to lunch.

Hospitals cannot, pro actively, release this information. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s the law. In fact, if you don’t ask the hospital a specific name, they will refuse to tell you whether or not they are a patient. There are no exceptions for public health concerns.
I know. It’s messed up.

Strange for the mayor to go out on a limb like this, and you would think he would be in-the-know. But this really does look like a positive, doesn't it?

few tidbits...
Harp says she’s been contacted by the US HHS secretary and that Feds will help the city if it’s Ebola
YNH CMO says they were aware of it “yesterday afternoon and evening”
Infectious disease doctor at YNH: Responders wore Level 3 suits
The patient was self-monitoring and let a primary care provider know about a fever.

Mayor rambling..notified at 9pm last night/reminds everyone it’s flu season/doesn’t think it will turn out to be Ebola/if it is ebola city is prepared/protocols for care are “even higher than required by CDC”

Yep—Yale parents are connected and proactive, albeit hopelessly liberal.

Surely it is being couched..normally that would indicate an outcome that is not desired.
But given the players involved on this one, I suppose there could be other factors involved.
